Last spring I bought a small Sears craftsman mower.....It ran fine for a while but at the end of the summer started fouling the spark plug...not oil fouled but just black soot looking stuff.....gas, oil....or what....?
I really don't know if it still under warranty or not...I can check with the dealer....I am not really sure about the kind of engine....I guess I assumed that it was a Briggs and Stratton....will check it out....Thanks
At first glance, it sounds (reads) like the mixture is too rich. However, mower plugs will become 'sooty' (is that a word???) because traditionally, small engines are not that efficient.
Change or clean the air filter and that should help.
The engine does run kinda rough....but after installing a new plug, it was fouled in a matter of minutes, and would not start until I cleaned the new plug. Haven't tried it since the end of summer...I think it is junkyard material. Will try another kind of mower next time. I will tinker with this one. Clean the plug, and filter and see what happens....Thanks....Nomadic
