Cold air intake???

Seem to remember a old post showing way to build a less restrictive air filter assembly for the 7.3. Can any one point me in the right direction. I think it used a k&n or napa filter and and just some 4inch hose or tubing.

thanks in advance

It's not really a cold air intake since it draws underhood air, but it most definitely flows way more than stock.

Try the search terms "tymar", "6637", or "kwikfilter"

Grizzley, you mean like this??
4" rubber coupler
4" 33 degree elbow
K&N universal filter ... K&N RD-1460
3 - clamps
Couple hours of my time.... oh and about $100

Hey....does this setup actually increase airflow? What are the disadvantages to such a setup? I live in a pretty dry, dusty place. Should I stick to my stock box with a K&N filter in it? This seems to good to be true....so simple and yet what an improvement.

can you talk about that set-up a bit more.....really interested in this one.

If you have really dusty conditions I'd probably use the NAPA 6637 filter for peice of mind . It's larger in diameter but connects the same.

None that I've noticed

I wouldn't. The stock box has had issues of letting air past the seal surface.

It's just a simpler setup. Got to love the sound of the turbo spooling up too.

If you are willing to spend the $100 to build one, you might as well just call Dale Isley (Tymar performance 509-922-8785) and get his. All of these "DIY" intakes are basically a copy of his, just not done quite as nice.

About $150. Just give him a call. Make sure you have plenty of time to talk though. As anybody who has dealt with him knows, he likes to talk .

1969fordguy..... Thanks for the compliment. One of these days I'm going to get the tube powder coated black. That'll make it look better yet.

Thanks alot Brians97F250Crew! thats exactly how i was going to build mine! now i have a pic to copy it from. now i just got to go to an abandond dairy farm and cut out some stainless steel milk pipe line out of the milkhouse free stuff man. and i cant belive you guys run K&N. there high flow and give power. but IMO they suck at filtering. ill stick with a bit more restrictive filter and have it filter better. but thats IMO.

and also... how did you bend your pipe? or did you buy it like that?
looking good!
Mitch

Mitch .. .glad I could help you out. On the K&N's ... I've used them for years and years. Even rebuilt engines I've used them on exclusively and never saw any wear from dirt infiltration. But to each his own.

Stainless tubing for free!!! Can't beat that.

On the bent tubing .... I bought it that way. It's a 33deg bend exhaust elbow.
