I've found the 40/20/40 seats in my recently purchased 96 F-250 PSD Crew Cab to be among the worst my backside has ever encountered. Now I realize that seats need to be "one size fits all" and that at 6'5 and 350 lbs that "one size" is generally too small, but these are really uncomfortable. It seems like the side of the seat cushion nearest the driver's door is pretty firm, but the other side isn't, since I seem to end up listing to starboard... Add in the too-wide fold down console and its pretty much a trip to the choropractor waiting to happen. I've been told that Bronco seats will ft right in, but decent ones seem to be in short supply, plus all of them I've seen seem to be low backed with no head restraint.
For now, I switched the rear bench seat to the front and put the front in the back- I guess that means the kids can go to the chiropractor This seat is a little better, but still not all that good, plus I can't adjust the seatback angle. On the bright side, I was able to drill a few new holes and move the seat back on the rails for a couple inches extra legroom, but the bench seat is a temporary fix....
So, does anyone have any advice about what might work in terms of aftermarket or boneyard seats. I'm hoping for something that I can more or less bolt onto the "platform" since I don't want to have to have something fabricated or start drilling holes in the floorpan. Also, since I have short legs whatever I put in there needs to be pretty low-profile... Any (semi) simple solutions?
Ive been looking for the 40/20/40 seat as i have the bench seat up front. IT has the power lumbar support and it really works nice for long trips. DOnt know if i want the 40/20/40 if it gives you a pain in the back side.
our seats all have this problem along with the metal lumbar bracket to be broken from its welds.
the fix:
ford sells the seat cushion for our seats around 100 bucks. when you replace the foam you want to put a piece of "CORRUGATED PLASTIC" (for sale siign or similar) between foam and springs. at this time you also want to look for any broken/undone springs....
the other common failure is the metal lumbar bracket. the seat upholstery needs to be slid of the backrest and the bracket welded back on. you can sit in your seat and feel the back of the seat to see if its broken....
i have that problem the piece will stick out if it is. i need to do both of these things to my truck..
everyone who has gives it 2 thumbs up..says it feels like new again...
also if your seat doesnt go back far enough for ya let me know. i know of a great write up for the "TALL GUY SEAT MOD" its very simple. and no extra holes through the floor board. it uses some holes that are a few inches farther back on the sliders.
hope this helps. i cant wait to have the time/ place to do it too mine. may need to do it before the big drive. just did the big drive in wifes car......

Just fixed my bench in my 93 F250. The problem I found was that several springs had broken. Took some old seatbelts and ran four length left to right and riveted them on each the drivers and passenger side ends. Weaved the belts thru the metal grid. Made it nice and solid. Did not need a new cover or foam.
Ford replaced the cover and foam for me once on warranty and I replaced the foam once myself. Unfortunately none of this ever addressed the real problem which were the broken springs.
My seat came up two inches and I had to reset all my mirrors. Finally riding high again.
I oicked up a set of broken down Bronce seats at the boneyard. Looking at them in the Bronco, it looked like I could attach any flat bottomed seat to the bases, since the tops of the bases are flat... Wrong! The bases don't even come close to fitting. So- Either I got the wrong Bronco (This was a mid 80's full-sized Bronco, which everybody says should have worked) or I'm missing something obvious. In the meantime, I'm out $40 and am back to square one. Anybody have any ideas
