i recently bought a digital vid. cam from a buddy, and the deal fell through on ebay with him buying a converter to enable me to upload the footage to the internet. i got my $65 back from the converter (fuel money) and we made an agreement tonight that he would give me $150 of free Amsoil products in exchange for the camera back. (i paid $150 for it, no longer want it and he is an amsoil dealer)
so here is what i have so far- i would like to change my diff. fluid for the helluvit, i dont think it's ever been done. im looking at Severe Gear 75-140 for the diffs. how much do i need for both differentials?
the other option is to go and flush the tranny out and use synthetic. i am going to get 20 qts of it and do the flusheroo, and add a filter while im there. one thing im not sure of, is regular Amsoil ATF rated for use in these trannies? the guy im buying it from says it's Mercon/DexronIII AND mercon V rated, and i told him that's no good. should i shy away from amsoil transmission products?
anything else i can use amsoil in on my truck? just flushed the PS system with syn. ATF of another brand, so that wouldn't need done. thanks guys.
he found some stuff for me that is mercon rated and not Mercon V, which is good. it is called Torque Drive. here is a .pdf page about it. seems like GREAT stuff. is this suitable? sounds like a great deal to me. comes in 2.5 gal (10qt jugs) which means i'd need two.
I put the mercon rated in my tranny, and have been very pleased with it. I have an after market tranny gauge, and before the Amsoil, I was pulling a TT at about 5K and had problems with it overheating to the point of "burping" a quart or so fluid when after a long haul I put it in reverse. (My opinion is that a Ford tranny is a weak link in the drive train) Even with an aux cooler, the temps I was running still made me nervous. I sold the TT, purchased a 5ver weighing in at about 9K loaded, and had to pick it up in Ohio. I drained the tranny, replaced the filter, and filled it with the amsoil. I noticed an immediate difference in the tranny performance, crisper shifts. I drove to Ohio, hooked the 5ver up for the trip home, traveled up fairly steep hills and down without a sign of a problem. Have pulled approximately 3K miles since coming home, and my temps run about 20-30 deg cooler. I installed a "tee" in the return line from the cooler, bought some extra amsoil, and plan to drain a quart each oil change and replenish with a fresh quart. Why? you ask. Who knows? Works for me!!!!

wow, that is good to hear. what you should have done is flushed the whole system by unhooking the return line from the cooler. it is mandatory to have 90% concentration of new oil when changing it to consider it "successful"... simply adding 6 quarts of amsoil to 11 quarts of old stuff that is still in the system is like urinating in the wind. when you drain the pan, you are not draining the oil that is in the TC, accumulators, cooler (wimpy one) and the lines.
I did. Like you said, if you don't do that, you leave a lot of old fluid in the system, especially in the torque converter. The Amsoil web site has a lot of good instructions on how to do the flush 'n fill. Even got the better half involved in helping me. Now that's scary!!!

And DO NOT believe what you read on Amsoil's website, they are very deceitful in their wording. Check out their motor oils, the description sounds like they are all API certified, in reality only a few are API certified:
I work for an marine engine manufacturer and when we tested different types of 2 stroke oils, Amsoil performed very well. Granted, this was 2 stoke oil but I think Amsoli makes a good product. I've used it in my snowmobile and it also performed well. I haven't used any in any of my auto's yet. Unless anyone can prove that they have had a failure related to Amsoil, I would use it in my vehicles.
Have used ONLY Pennzoil in EVERYTHING for last 25 yrs. until recently changed everything to Amsoil. BIG difference in performance. Used Amsoil transfluid and works great. Noticed huge improvement in shifting and firmness.
If you go to the Amsoil website you can enter your truck year and model and they will give you all the capacity requirements for your truck. Click on their online product information guide and enter your truck.
Have only used Amsoil since 1979 and love the stuff, and yes it's in my tranny. I run 15w-40 in my 99.5 F-350 7.3 and Synthetic Universal Transmission Fluid and pull a 10,000+ fifth wheel about 90% of the time nota a problem. It's in my 1994 F-150 and never had any problem there ether. All I worry about is the bodies rusting away.
