I have two Expediton's. A 98 with 210,000 and a 01 with 198,000. Outside of tires shocks, and brakes, I replaced an alternator and #4 coil pack on the 98 and just plugs on the 01. $5k sounds like a good price to me.
man, this is an incredible story.... oil changes at 3k? ... regular or synthetic?
I haven't done belts or hoses either...and the belt looks fine with no . I hope our EXPY holds up like this.

I change oil anywhere from 3k-5k depending on when I can find the time and I use regular 5w-30. Both Expy's were salesmen's vehicles, I have owned the 98 for 4 years it had 157,000 on it when I got it. The 2001 had 183,000 on it and I have had it about a year and a half.
i got my 98 xlt 4x4 for 4000 162000 miles 67000 on a newly installed salvage yard motor interior is great body is too runs and drives like a top i was very happy with the price ive been lookin for one for a while most with 100-130XXX miles were going for the neighborhood of $8000 plus
I just bought my 00 Exped 5.4L EB a few months ago with 74,500 miles or so. I was talking to a service tech the other day because the ball joints are going out. He said that is common in these trucks, they arent real expensive to replace but thought you might want to have them checked too. Just a thought.
I have know a lot of Ford Truck owners that are very loyal and put 150K-350K on each truck they buy. We also have a Ford sedan and it runs strong too over 100k on it.
I would try to get a better price on it of course, never hurts.
For reference - knowing it had a few issues, I purchased mine for $2900 three months ago.
1997 EB, 5.4 engine, 148,000 miles.
Since the purchase, I've changed the upper control arms / upper & lower ball joints (moog), new plugs & 3 ea. coil on plugs (motorcraft), troubleshot / repaired cruise control and keyless entry, and given it a good inside/outside bath.
Still needs one signal mirror replaced (it's delaminated inside), replacement of the remote oil filter lines (small leak), new tires and a few other minor details.
Runs great, rides smooth. Very happy with the purchase so far.
Considering the cash I've put out for parts and my time to do the repairs, I'd say $5000 is a pretty good price.
sounds like a pretty good deal just make sure you look over everything real good or take it to a mechanic you can trust if you don't know what to look for. And Welcome to FTE!!!
