Picked up a 68 Galaxie (LTD) with a sweet running low mile 390 in it. 70000. Pulled the heads today and the cyls. are spotless. I will keep the 2v intake on it. Tag on carb has AM 9HA2 B / B 8G 9 on it. Is this a ford carb? Like I said the car ran flawless. Anything I need to watch out for when I swap them out ?
Sorry bout that. 1965 Customcab 3/4 ton ,352, stick on the floor. Got the trans also. Cruise-o matic !!! Was gonna keep the stick cause I don't know if the auto tranny would stuff in there or not. Or if that tranny was even worth messin with ? It is nice and tight. If I could use it would I have to rework driveline?
Don't feel bad about cannibalizing it. I saved this car from a sure death. Some kids had been schooling on it and I don't think they where learning a damn thing.
Motor and tranny will fit right in there, not sure about the drive shaft though.I'am currently installing a engine from a 3 speed colum shift into an automatic truck. The standard is 65' and the auto is a 66 Merc.
It will fit with the auto trans, but you may need a short section to go behind it if you still have the 2-piece drive shaft. When I went from the 4-speed to the C6 auto, I grabbed the short section that backed the C6 to the middle shaft carrier, simple change-out. Of course you can always go to one piece shaft too...
I also will add you will need to change the oil filter mounting plate to a horizintal one; cars are vertical and trucks aren't. Can use the one off your 352 I beleive; if not you can allways donate it to me LOL.

If you use a short filter, you can still get away with using the vertical mount...

1968 Galaxie = C6 Cruise-O-Matic
Short oil filter: Motorcraft FL-300
You will prolly have to modify the driveshaft when you install the C6.
The carb is a Ford 2V, but the number you posted isn't correct...look for a triangular shaped tag on the airhorn. The code will be similar to: C8AF-AA
I don't need the code to give you the part number for the carb kit, it's the same kit your pickup's 352 carb uses: D4AZ-9A586-A (Motorcraft CT-499-D).
This kit fits all Ford 2V carbs: trucks = 1965/74 / cars 1960/74.

Thanks for all the info. I'm a little confused on the auto tranny. I thought the FMX cruise-o and the C6 where two diff animals ?? The trans code on the galaxie is X. Also I have added a pic in my gallery of tag on carb. Remember, I'm still learning.

X = FMX Cruise-O #PHB-A. You musta found one of the very few 390/FMX combos's. 98% of 1968 Ford 390's have a C6.
Officially, the FMX was introduced in 1969, so your Galaxie (it is a Galaxie, right?, not an LTD or an XL) must be a very late 1968.
Ach du lieber!
Now I know why I couldn't figure out that ^&^%$ carb tag.
The carb isn't from a Ford originally...the ID tag is...(gasp)...marked AM = American Motors!

Thanks for info Numbers. It is an XL fastback. Next question. Will the 352 carb work on the 390? Or just find a 390 carb? Would the FMX is a be worth the time? Here is some info I read up on. I am sure you know most of this. What I don't understand is the last paragraph.
The Ford C4 was a three-speed, light-duty automatic transmission introduced in the 1964 model year and produced through 1986.
It featured an aluminum alloy three-piece case (bell housing, main case, and tailhousing). This was significantly lighter than earlier cast iron Cruise-O-Matic designs. It also used a Simpson planetary gearset.
It was used with Ford's inline six-cylinder engines and small V8 engines (see Ford Windsor engines), usually up to 302 in³ (5.0 L). By comparison, the 351 Windsor and 351 Cleveland small and intermediate-block engines were backed by the medium-duty FMX.
The FMX used stronger MX-type rotating parts in the smaller FX case; introduced in 1968 and built until 1982 at the Fairfax plant, which closed when the FMX was balanced out. The FMX used a Ravineaux planetary gearset.
The Ford C6 transmission was a heavy-duty automatic transmission built by the Ford Motor Company between 1966 and 1996 for use with large, powerful big-block V8 engines. It was very similar to the C4 transmission but could handle greater power. It was used primarily in trucks, although it was also used in some larger cars with big block engines, such as the Ford FE engine and Ford 385 engines.
Among the performance crowd, the C6 is the best and most desirable. The FMX is probably the rarest in general, but it was not used in cars. Some parts might interchange between the C4 and C6, but doubtful on the FMX.
