My 92 f150 with 4.9 and automatic has a minor problem. I have only 83,000 and all parts of the truck appear to be in excellent condition. I have replaced the rotor, cap, plugs and wires using a Accel tune up kit. I had this problem both before and after the tune up. At a steady speed of about 40 the truck jerks or jumps slightly while driving at a steady speed. There is no miss while accelerating even with a WOT. This problem is not noticeable at 70. If I press on the throttle even a little, the jump goes away. Any ideas anyone.
I have an 89 E250 with a 91 motor in it and it is doing the same thing and now it's even more noticeable with the new exhaust and it's starting to drop my MPG.hope some one on here can help you and I.
please search for EGR restrictor plate or block off plate.
You can try unplugging the EGR and see if this helps.
For some people the EGR is the culprit to this problem, it was with me, but it still is sort of a mystery as to why it malfunctions like this. Some people replace the EGR and the problem goes away, but i think i've read that some people have replaced it and the problem persists.
Most of my mechanical experience is on carb engines from the 50s and 60s,so I am having troblem identifing the EGR. Is it the pipe coming up behind the valve cover with a mechinism that looks like a toilet flush valve on the end. If that is it, it has both an electical and a vacuum connection.
I had another look at mine to day and found that there was no vacuum going to the EVP so I traced the line back to the vac canister were I fond it had a hole so I fixed that and fired it back up and it made it worse so I just pulled and pluged the vac line going to the EGR and it's back to a good idle but not sure if the miss is there still as I had to stop before a test drive.will see tomorrow.
