Very sensitive peddle..tps? chip? or something else?
My peddle has been acting goofy lately. im just looking to see if any of you guys have had the same problem..or if this is just my truck..
Dosent matter if im driving down the road or starting out whenever i give the truck a little throttle or even if im holding it steady the rpms will some times jump up..almost like someone is moving the truck from the stock position on the chip to a HP tune while driving. if i feel it do it and take my foot off the throttle..wait a second then reapply throttle it goes away. i though maybe TPS, Chip or something else. i checked all my connections to the chip and they seem fine.
You've had the DP chip in it for a while without any issues, right? I would be leaning towards the TPS if so.
Yea about year and a half now. Might be a dumb question but is there anyway to ohm that tps out before I go buy a new one. If I rember right there kinda pricey.
I'm not sure but maybe Stewart (Stewart_H), Pete(F250_) or Chris (F350-6) would know. IIRC the regular TPS was around $100 but if you had the adjustable pedals it was around $350
Phil, Get a can of contact cleaner and blow the switch out real good, than try it. Alot of Brothers have had good luck with that, me never.
When my TPS starts to go bad I notice its gets real touchy at idle or real low speed, ie: crossing a parking lot or such.
If it doesn't change, pull the chip and see if it goes away.
Phil, If you have a seperate TPS they're only $50-60 for a new one, and takes a few mins to change.
I'm not 100% if your 2000 has the same design as mine ( I know 2001 was different and more expensive)
The older design has two plugs. One for the TPS and one for the idle validation switch. The newer design is one plug (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
If you see one of these, its the older style and your in luck.
I Picked one up from Ford and the price was the same as the Dorman from Advance Auto. I went thru three of them last year tracking down my surging issues, and it turned out to be my old tuner. So I have a few spare TPS's now...
Hey thanks for all the input guys. Yes it sounds exaxctly what all of you are describing. Franko u mention that is controls the idle validation? Could this be related to idle noises. Like it has a slight slight loop at idle. Its so slight that you can barley hear it. Sorry I got off topic lol, but anyway. I am going to grab some QD cleaner from work today and give that a shot. If not then new tps it is sucks when I just ordered 1000 worth of parts for old red lol.
Phil, do you have AE? I was having similar issues but mine turned out to be a sticking IPR. What finally gave my issue away was that after driving for a bit, my duty cycle at idle in park and stopped was 0.8%. And no, that's not a typo.
On the first design the tps is separate from the idle validation. Im not sure exactly how the IV works, so I can't say if it would cause a lope.
the IVS is just an Off/On switch. If the PCM "sees" the Idle switch is activated it won't allow input from the TPS. That's why when the IVS sticks, the pedal goes "dead".

went through this last week on my 2003 was like the slightest pressure and your at 2000 rpm had to gas and brake in parking lots and down town till got cruise on to get home bought a new pedal a dorman and now it dies after i press it and release fast for like 30 sec to 1 min so returning and ordering a ford one so pedal fixed the sensitivity but came with the usual dead pedal issue
Hm I had an ae but sold it to my buddy who had more use for it then me. I'm going over to his shop tomorrow anyway ill definatly test that and see...what should that reading be at normaly. Obvisouly not .8 LOL...
.and thanks for clearing that idle thing up. If I do need a tps it looks like oem (ed yes I will buy from you) is the answer
