i might be wrong but ive heard that the heads are the same. just the cam intakes and computer are more agressive on the HO.the truck has 185hp stock, and 225 on the HO, my guess is that you would be somewhere in the middle
The heads are the same to the best of my knowledge...both are E7TE's. The cam is really where the power difference is, so if you change it back to the truck cam, you are not going to gain anything at all. Well maybe a little if the HO compression ratio is any higher than the truck engine.
I want to put the mass air in soon after I get it up and running, along with a K&N and full exhaust aswell. It will be a offroaded some but mostly just personal use. I want something with a healthy note but with good street manors. What cam do you guys recommend?
It definitely has the same E7TE heads on it. The differences between a mustang HO 302 and a truck 302...are headers vs manifolds, short runner vs long runner intake manifold, different cam, different firing order, MAF SEFI vs SD EFI, and single 65mm TB vs dual 45mm TB.
The mustang would be at 225hp and the 87 truck at 185. The 94ish trucks moved up to 205hp from 185.
i hear that cam works well in a truck if you install 1.7 rockers but dont quote me on that. if you go mass air your cam choices increase a lot. but if you continue to run SD then call compcam and see what they recommend. I beleive that motor will be setup for a roller cam as well so be sure you mention that to them.
1.7's and the HO cam with SD? I was thinking that the idle would serge, or is that the cam that comes in SD Mustangs? Can I use the Mustang intake also? The engine I have didn't come with lifters, pushrods, or rockers can I use the ones out of my truck with the HO cam or do they need to break in together?
You could use the mustang intake and throttle body but I'd recommend just using the truck stuff. It'll help get you a better low/mid range torque level which is important with the dinky 302 in a truck.
The HO cam would work, but do ya really wanna switch it when you run MAF? It'll be a heck of a lot easier to do all of this at once. Put that setup together and run it off MAF with a comp cam and 1.6 rockers. See if you can pick up a roller tip rocker as they're better and not that much more money (don't have to be the fancy aluminum ones).

Can I use the lifters, pushrods and rockers out my 87 F150 5.0 in a 93 HO with the stock HO (used) cam and heads? If not what is a good set to buy if you are doing a buget build?
My truck is a stick and the donar car was an auto, will I need a new balancer?
Im also putting mass air in any tips where to buy the wiring and comp?

Thanks, Joe
I don't thiink so on the truck lifters you need roller lifters for a '93 ho cam.
Balancer should be good.
Can't help you on the wiring
