Ford F-250, The Triton V10 Gasoline Engine
Hello, This is my first posting on this forum. I am considering purchasing a Ford F250 Pickup Truck to tow my 1968 Avion Travel Trailer. I am 71 years old. I have owned my trailer since 1980. It is in excellent condition. I have owned a 1983 Chevrolet C-20, 6.2 liter diesel powered suburban since I bought it brand new in 1983. It is beginning to show its age, and I have given it the best care during those 23 years as possible. Regular oil changes, fuel filter, air filter changes, etc.. However, I feel it is now time to move on. I have been looking at the Ford V10 powered pickup. Are there some well known problems with the Triton V10 engine that I may not be aware of? Is it a good engine? I don't want to buy another diesel, because I won't live long enough to recoup the additional costs of the diesel engine. Maybe I am wrong? Please give me some advice as to where to go. Thank you, Tom Roberts, tdabneyroberts@prodigy.net.

The V-10 is a very good engine. 126,000 miles on my 2000 Excursion, regular maintenance but it has never had a hiccup. I have only pulled smaller loads with that one though 5-6,000 lbs. My 2006 F250 only has 16,000 miles on it but I pull big loads with it 12-16,000 lbs, not a problem. It does drink the gas down pretty quick with those loads though.

I put 150,000 miles on my 2001 V-10 and did not have a single problem. Regular maintenance was the only work it saw. Don't worry about the V10 it's a good motor. The fuel mileage leaves a little to be desired, but your moving a lot truck with a big motor. I always got 13 empty and 11 loaded or towing.

Welcome Tom!
71 years old and STILL wants a V10!! Boy, this is one great engine! It "pulls" the desire from folks of all ages!
I would say that if you kept that 6.2L running from 23 years you'll have NO probelms at all with the V10. I know: I used to have a 6.2.
Are you looking new or pre-owned??

Ford Triton V10 Gasoline Fueled Engine-2006
First of all, as a brand new member of the "Ford Truck Enthusiasts" chat site, I thank you all, everyone of you!, for the kind response to my inquiry. I have owned a diesel for over 23 years and sort of got addicted to a diesel. But, now is the time to move on. If my 6.2 diesel fails it's compression tests tomorrow, i.e. 425 ppsi + or - by 75 lbs. I will really consider a new rig. Mine is 23 years old with the best care I could give it. I have changed the oil at 2,500 to 3,000 miles extremely regular, with all of the oils that came on the market at the time during the time I have owned it. Right now, I use Rotella 15/40. It runs like a "deer" these days, only it is getting a little sluggish to start on a cool to cold day, unless I plug it in. It used to be not so fussy. When I plug it in, it starts at the first rotation of the starter motor. Now, at 9,000 feet altitude, it won't start, period when it has set for a few days in a covered garage, with an ambient temp. of about 50 degrees. I don't want that unreliablity. Again, thanks alot for your help. You are a great source of reliable and experienced information about Ford's V10!!! Tom Roberts, tdabneyroberts@prodigy.net

Sounds like you either need to clean the injectors and adjust them, or the glow plugs are just getting a little dirty and need to be replaced. However, you are right-on getting the compression checked.
On the other hand, GET THE V10! You won't be sorry. Even when it's breathing it's last gasp, it'll start below freezing

get the 3 valve V10 I have a 05 with the new 5 speed transmission and tow command system a very great set up. I tow a tractor and trailer that is about 8,000 lbs. and it moves it good. This is a very quiet and smooth motor than you have in the 6.2 that you have now. I ordered my truck but look for one with the 4.30 rear axle for towing I found about that on this site and it was not a mistake. This is a nice truck for pulling power and quiet the V10 is only a $600.00 option and it is a very good set up.

We bought an 06 F350 CC V10 with the 4:30 rear end and tow command this summer. Have 10K on the truck now. It is easily the best vehicle I have ever owned. Quality is great and it runs great. When pulling our 8K Travel Trailer, the truck does not even know it is there. My better half loves how quiet the truck is, especially when we are pulling into campgrounds or pulling out early the next morning. I would highly recommend this vehicle.
