What 2 do with my 56?

I have aquired a '56 F350 dually truck. Originally it was considered as a possible project, but soon after I realized that it wasn't going to be. I have too many projects already. I know nothing of ford truck of this vintage, so my question is, is this truck, or the parts therein, worth anything to anybody? I know this isn't the classified seaction, nor I am I trying to pimp parts here. What I am trying to find out is, is there a demand for these parts out there or should I call a junk man? It is a F350 dually cab and chasis, in decent shape. Original drivetrain and engine, which I was told still ran when I took ownership, though motor was tired. ALL ORIGINAL, the best I can tell. As for a bed, it has a boom and PTO driven winch of some sort, (chain driven off of back of trans). Not what I would consider a wrecker, but maybe some sort of junkyard hauler.? Glass is broken but other than that truck is decent, but needs TLC. If someone can give me a little input on wether it is worth messing with I would be very thankful. Thanks, Dwight

What ever you do don`t junk it as it is a neat truck. The complete cab and hood is the same as a F100, the fenders have bigger wheel openings. 56 is a very popular year for Ford trucks and also very neat truck with the wrap around w/s and the 12 volt system. The glass isn`t too big a deal and most older trucks always need TLC. I too wish I was closer to you as I would love to get this truck. I`m in Sask., Canada.

If the sheetmetal doesn't have a lot of damage or rustout, don't scrap it, put it in the classifieds here or on ebay and give someone a chance at obtaining the project of their dreams. It would definitely have more value to someone that appreciates these trucks even if just as a parts truck than what the scrap dealer would give you.
PS: please change that font, it's near impossible to read without a lot of work.

I agree with everyone else, We have to forums going about how sad it is to see these trucks Crushed or sitting and wasting away. Or how ford should come out with new trucks with the retro feel(no Ax it's not a miata). They all have a value to someone. DO NOT SCRAP IT! F350 Parts are harder and harder to find

Thanks much for the input, I just noticed the "50th anniversery" emblem in the center of the steering wheel. So I would guess that would make it of interest to collectors. I will take the time to put it in the classifieds. Sheet metal is in good cond. so it would be nice to see it put to good use. And your right the original font is annoying, won't happen again.

There are two bad things about this truck. One is that we are too far apart for me to even think of buying it from you. The second is that you have too many projects (not that I don`t) to enjoy it yourself. Keep us posted as to what happens to this truck.

DRF150,

As the others have said, do NOT scrap it! How about some pics? I have a '56 F-350 that's in good shape, but, for the right price, I would consider working out some sort of deal with you. How about a swap for a '72 Bronco? (See my gallery.) I am not too far away, Ga./S.C. Line.

Johnny

I have a 56 F350 dually as well. It has a stake bed on it and I just love it. Don't scrap it, the bigger trucks are being more and more sought after as the little trucks are getting harder to find - sell intact is your best bet.

Also, I noted you mentioned the 50th anniversary horn button - the 50th anniversary year is actually 1953. You may have a 56 with a 53 wheel or it just might be a 1953. Post the vehicle VIN number and you'll get a ton of information about the truck from many of the members!

I looked closer at the truck again today and i realized exactely what you are talking about. I am somewhat embarassed to say that i noticed the same thing on the wheel. I would swear that i bought it as a 56' but the steering wheel would lead me to think differently. Which poses the question? Where would I find any ID #s? I looked around and found none. It would seem by the wheel that it is a 53' but I can't find any ID numbers. I will also say that, upon close investigation, that the floor pan around the doors and the rear corners of the cab do have some cancer going on. The passenger door is good, the driver has a little at the bottom rear corner. Let me know where I can find some numbers and I will post them.

It's easy to distinguish the 56 from the 53-55. The earlier trucks had a slightly bowed windshield that was nearly flush with the front of the roof and did not wrap around the sides at all. Ford introduced the wrap around windshield in 56 where it comes around to meet the doors at the sides. the 56 also had a pronounced sunvisor or forehead effect where the roof extended beyond the top of the windshield. The vehicle ID plate on a 53 should be in the glove compartment on the inside of the door, the 56 would be on the left doorpost.
