I have a 99 F150 4.6L that has started stalling at idle and during startup. It originally started as a random event that seemed to happen only when restarting on a cool day. Now it is happening more often. We have to keep the accelerator down while stopped or push on the accelerator just after it starts.
This is my first fuel injector vehicle. In the old days the fuel filter or a vacuum line would be my first guess but with the fuel pump I would think that the engine would be starved all of the time if it was the filter. I had changed the fuel filter about 6 months ago. I am on business travel now and am looking for some ideas for either before I get home or my wife wants to take it in.
The idle air control valve is the problem. You can try cleaning it, but the repair will last longer if you replace the valve. Get one at the dealer. When it comes to electrical parts OEM seems to be the best way to go.
