OK, guys and gals, we had a slow drizzle through the weekend. I put some weatherstrip in the third brake light before it started raining on Saturday. Today when I drove it, the headliner was damp on the edge just behind the driver seat and around the corner on the rear above the rear window (ext. cab). So, what kind of seal is supposed to be in there? Brake light area was dry! What now??
On our 2002 we had a leak in the same place and it was the window seal, the dealer replaced the entire window un warranty.
OK, Ken, the windows are inset with the drip rail above. Is the drip rail not sealed? Does moisture go thru the drip rail and onto the window seal? Guess I'm not familiar with how they work. I have a glass installer very close to where I work. Guess I need to take it in and have them check it.
Theres little tiny studs all along the frame of the windows that bot the frame in using a bunch of nuts on the inside of the truck. The use a special kinda gummy type seal around the window and they either didn't put enough on or your window of maybe the nuts came loose and caused a leak. A good way to check it if you have tinted windows, at night have a friend get inside the truck and point a flashlight at the inside on the seal and follow it all the way around till you find the leak.

Another good idea, Jim! Thanks!
I took it to the glass shop today and they found it was the rear window that was leaking. They did an R & R and hopefully stopped the leak! I can see black gooey shining at the top seal!
Similar issue- R&R may include replacing the window?
Hi all- I've got a '98 regular cab Ranger with sliding rear (tinted) window and third brake light. The local auto glass shop said they can "R&R" it for 75.00. BUT- they said there is a chance they may break the window while trying to remove it. If they break the window, then I have to buy the replacement window... Have any of you heard of this policy? Have any of you had a rear window break while removing it? Just wondering if this is a common thing..
I found a decent used on at a local junk yard for 100.00. If the glass shop breaks it, I guess I'll just get the used window and have them install it...
btw- I removed the interior trim parts and the headliner so that I could see where it's leaking... I see water dripping in between the outside edge of the body and the inside edge of the window. It drips down on the top edge of the window frame and then runs down onto the (headliner) and then the seats. SUCKS!
So- I'm pretty sure it's the window seal and not the third brake light..but would certainly appreciate any comments/ feedback-
Thanks guys!

The shop I used last week never mentioned the possibility of breaking the window. They acted as though it was a common thing for them to do, and it was done in about two hours with no problems. (Mine is '97 ext. cab with sliding rear window.)
BTW, our "rain" last weekend wasn't enough to settle the dust, so Sunday I ran it through the automatic car wash. RESULT = NO MORE LEAK!!
