Thumbs down 94 runs cold

I have a 94 ranger with a 144,000 miles. It runs great but the temp guage doesn't go up very much. I thought it was the thermostat, but I changed it and nothing different. Also the heat doesn't get very hot unless I'm on the gas. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have a 94, 2.5 (just about to sell it) it has always just barely moved the temp guage. If I check the rad / goose neck temp it is normal.

Just a crappy guage system.

My 94 Ranger has the problem that the temp gauge will not stay in one place. It will warm up, then cools down, then warms up. I finally bought a blanket/screen for the front and now the temp stays constant.

Anyone else have this problem?

Um, yeah, my old 94 4.0 did like to do that. It was always caused by bad thermostats. Improper purging can cause this too. That truck had a hearty diet for temp gauge sending units; I think it ate five over the 11 years I owned it.
