Need some help... My alternator and battery stopped working on my 2002 F-250 SD (gas) and I replaced both, but can't seem to get the battery light on my instrument panel to turn off (stays lit). It starts and runs good. Does anyone have any ideas as to why? Thanks.
Sorry this is wrong. Either you have a broken wire/bad connection to the alternator or the new alternator is defective. Using a volt meter start by testing for power at the main power wire on the alternator, if no power is found check for blown fuse/fuse link.
Next unplug the harness connector to the voltage regulator (on the alternator) Test for power on the yellow wire. If no power check for a broken wire or blown fuse. Now with the key turned on check for 2 volts or greater on the green wire, if no voltage trace that wire back to the inst. cluster (it comes from the battery light)
If all the wiring tests good then you have a dud alternator.
Most fords have the wire colors that I listed above, however some are different. If they are not the same colors they should still test the same. If this alternator has a 3 wire and a one wire plug, ignore the center and test the 2 outside's, the center wire just jumps to the 1 wire plug.
14.5volts at idle Alt charging voltage with fully charged battery. Good battery key off 12.5 volts. The light comes on because it isn't seeing charging voltage. If its charging then as said above you have a small wire thats not making it to the dash.

Which did you replace first? There should have been a note in the box with your re-built alternator cautioning you to not install the alternator on a vehicle with a dead or discharged battery. If you do this it gets more expensive then if you don't
In reality I think thats a bunch of bull. I can't tell you how many times I have run my bartteries down to nothing by accident or on purpose and jumped it and drove away and never killed an alt. Plus the SD alts are heavy duty its not gonna hurt them unless there's something wrong with it to start with. On some vehicles that may be the case cause the alts are sized too small.
okay... well all wiring seems fine, got a reman. alt. They gave me 110 amp? My new battery shows 12.8v and 13.4v w/ alt. charging, remains 13.4v w/all power on also. Lighting pulsating lightly in sequence w/ humming/ light squeel alternator (louder w/ more drawing off) Bad alt/ volt reg.?
So it sounds like a bad alt? Nothing new has been placed to draw more, ideas for bigger amp alt? This 110 was all that matched @ parts store. Had to order that one. Since when did F250 alts. become so uncommon?
I think the 130 amp is prob more common. Some brands of remans are total junk.
It shouldn't pulsate and it should put out 14.5 volts. I'm a little hesitant cause I'm wondering why your original went bad....or did it. Don't know what to tell you. Sounds like that alt is junk.
