I was reading some post older post on sound reduction and was wondering if anybody every installed this stuff in your trucks. I have been talking to the guy at the local audio shop and he says Dynamat xtreme is the best stuff. So I was looking at some others and found FATMAT. This is suppose to be as good as dynamat xtreme and you get 3x as much, 100 sq. ft compared to 32 sq. ft., for $50 less.
You think it might be worth the $$$$?

I used a product called ( I think ) NoiseKiller. I covered the floor, firewall, and the roof. I put large pieces in the doors and behind the tank. It was a little expensive, but the result was astonishing. The downside is that I learned that these trucks have lots of windnoise designed into them....

hey merc, how did you prep the inside of your doors? How many layers did you use? Is it still sticking after exposure to extreme temps? Also how many sq feet did you use? Sory if thats too many questions.
1bad66, I too have looked at this quite a bit on ebay and thought fatmat sounded like a pretty good deal. Let us know how it does would ya.
All the steel surfaces had new paint on them (POR 15 and yellow overspray), so I did no prep other than wipe with a rag and alcohol. I used one layer - it's thick, but not so thick that it interferes with things that fit together, like the seat frame and the floor. It's "peel and stick", but I used contact cement on the inside of the roof, just in case. I used lots; I think five rolls. Cost about $200, but I got what I wanted...
I have been reading more up on the different brands at car audio forums and here is what I have learned:
The fatmat stuff is all most the same stuff that you can buy at your local orange or blue box. This stuff is made from rubberized asphalt and when it gets hot leaves a nice tar smell in your vehicle. Also if it gets hot enogh to melt they say its a pain to clean. But it is cheap. $1 per sq ft.
The good stuff is made from butyl(sp) and their are several dealers. Dynamat xtreme and secondskin (deamplifier) are the most widely used and cost about the same $150 for 32 sq ft. It is more expensive but if you want the best and done right the first time they say this is the stuff.
It will be about 2 weeks before I add this to my truck, I am also doing new carpet and door panels, so I gotta wait till payday. I will post up when I order and let yall know what I went with.
