older tape deck dragging fix

i have a 20 year old pioneer cassette deck that drags to the point where it doesnt work anymore and im pretty sure its from the rubber drive belt that goes off the motor slipping cause the belt is stretched. ive noticed alot of older cassette decks have the same problem.anybody have any ideas on how i can get it workin again? im assuming the belt is not available anywhere so i was thinkin of cutting a short section out of it and glueing it back together somehow to take up the slack. i hate newer stereo's that dont have ***** and wanna keep my old one. any ideas?
