I have noticed a wind sound while driving my 05 f150. It sounds like when your window seal is bad on a car, but this is coming from the front windshield. I have never had a truck before so I don't know if that is kinda normal with the aerodynamics of a truck as opposed to a car. The cab is so quiet inside, and if the stereo is on you don't really notice it.
I noticed a little wind noise from the front windshield on my '05 and it got a little louder after I put a bugshield on, especially when driving into a strong wind, but it's hardely noticeable when the radio is on. I think that with the areodynamics of a truck and the size of the front windshield you're going to get a little more windnoise, and since the cab on these new fords are so quiet compared to most other trucks you notice everything.
Alot of us have had the wind noise problem. Use the search link and type in wind noise and you will learn alot about this problem. As far as i know there has been no true fix. The thread has info on how to lessen the wind noise. Good luck BWEP.
Not really, it was in the spring of '05 and it took about 2 weeks for them to get it
Would really like to know what the kit was. I have the same problem on an '06 supercrew. Please post if you can find out. The dealer says they know nothing on wind noise.
I picked up my '06 Supercrew four weeks ago. My first trip was a 250 mile round trip highway drive a few days later. It was loud...a lot of wind noise matter of fact. I went through all my CD's on that trip. My '93 Ranger rides with less wind noise. I complained to the dealer when I got back and he suggested a bug shield and side window vents. I did that and didn't change a thing sorry to say. I also added a tonneau cover to try to make it as wind slick as I could. Nope. I have a call into the dealership manager...I am not happy. The test drive I took did not include 65 on the highway...my fault. My gut feeling is because of the design of the truck, the size of the windshield and angle, and the size of the mirrors (more on this), the votex and wind shear that is created by all this...will be loud. I think that is what Ford is going to tell me. If it was the moulding around the windshield that could be replaced and that would knock 50% of the noise down, that would be fantastic!
On the mirrors, one Ford mechanic told me that a friend of his in Cali took off the outside mirrors and it really cut the noise down! But...is that legal? lol. Nope!
If anyone hears anything else on this, please fill us all in. Mean time...crank up that country music while on the highway!

The whistling in my truck is very high pitched. I've turned on the wipers, folded in the mirrors - no change. It seems to be coming from the front windshield area.
Mine is just a wind noise...air moving...like the sound inside an airplane when you are flying. I have not tried anything with the mirrors yet, but I made arrangements to take the dealership manager for a ride next week, and also test drive another 06 with him to see if there is a difference beings that I added the bug deflector and window vents. I am curious now to see if it got better or worse. It seems so suttle. Someone else mentioned a moon shield along the roof line/windshield cut down on the noise. Another fellow that tows a camper told me his roof air damn also cut down the noise. I don't know but I'd like to park in my garage, and for my truck not to look like a semi! lol. The search goes on. FORD better pay me for the research! lol.
I have an o4 Lariat Screw. IT is quiet as a mouse all the way to 90 MPH. No complaints at all. The 02 Durango that I just got rid of was terrible! It was an R/T and if you didn't have the stereo turned up the wind noise would deafen you!
I just purchased my truck (Late Feb 06) and noticed a high pitched whistle while driving in head winds at 60+MPH or regardless of wind direction when over 70MPH.
The first thing I did was search online where I found and read through all the topics on the subject but haven't seen any clear answers as to what the problem is.
I then contacted Ford directly (via online form) but they told me to go see the dealer (even though I told them that no customers experiencing the problem were helped by their dealer). So I plan to go to my dealer soon and start the complain process.
I decided to do some investigating of my own as to the cause before I take it in so I bought some masking tape over at HD (make sure it is NOT the strong adhesive kind! I used the low adhesive kind and still had residual glue in some places that I had to clean with WD40) and taped up various sections that I thought could be causing the whistle. I tried one section at a time, mostly concentrating on upper passenger side as that is were the sound seems to be coming from. I swear I used half a roll of tape and STILL couldn't get the noise to stop. I even added tape to the antenna to no avail. I also removed the wipers. Still whistle was present. So I'm just letting everyone know that I'm also having this problem and would love to hear if anyone has definitively solved it and what the remedy is. I'm taking mind into the dealer next week however I'm not hopeful they will be able to solve it.
Well all of a sudden i go on a drive tis morning and low and behold, now all of a sudden I have the wind noise now. Only thing is , that it was very cold last night here. It really does sound like the seal is bad on the top of the windshield
Here is an update. Short version: The dealer seems to think that the problem is the Sirus Satellite antenna that is mounted on my roof. In the exact words of my service rep: "it disrupts the natural airflow along the roof." He said he would call me back once he could find a different place to put it. I told him to put it anywhere he wanted or remove it completely as I'd rather have a whistle-free truck than satellite radio (i'm a talk radio guy anyway). Well, they called me back later and started back peddling (paraphrasing):
Ford: "well, we think it is bolted on to the roof and we can't remove it. You need to take it to a body shop"
Me: "But you said that adding it disrupted the natural flow of air across the roof. so you guys should fix it"
Ford: "Well we don't install it, Ford does before they send the car to us"
Me: (thinking that isn't entire factual, probably some aftermarket firm contracted by Ford, but anyway)
Ford (continues): "Oh and btw, I (service rep) drop it around and didn't hear the whistle"
Me: "Yeah but you said your techs DID hear it earlier when they tested it, right?"
Ford: "Oh yeah, I guess I wasn't driving fast enough... there was a lot of traffic. Why don't you come down and drive another one. Probably all of them with the sat. anntena do the same thing."
Me: "What difference does it make? And besides, I doubt they all do as only a segment of users are/is complaining about it. Probably has to do with exact positioning of the antenna."
I was getting no where with the service guy so I went in later that night and talked to the manager of the service area. He was much more understanding (and sympathetic) of my problem. He didn't believe that the antenna couldn't be moved and said that even if they had to take it off they could probably seal up the holes pretty good. He then asked me to contact his main radio tech today and follow-up with him. I'll keep everyone posted on what happens.
The horrifying thing about all this is what if it ISN'T the antenna? What if i move it somewhere else or get dir of it completly and STILL have the whistle/whinning sound at speeds? THen what?
~~~~~~~~~After a week~~~~~~~~~~
Another update for anyone that is still interested. I setup an appointment with the radio tech over at Ford and went in to see him. He agreed to take a drive with me to hear the noise first hand. After we got to ~75MPH (we had a tailwind), the whinning started and got more pronounced the faster we went. "I hear it, but it's not that bad. You can just turn on the air and up the radio volume to drown it out". I kid you not but those were his words. I tried to explain that it wasn't always an option to turn on the radio (especially if kids are sleeping during a trip) and that because it is a high pitch (high frequency), you had to turn things up pretty loud before the sound is sufficiently drowned out. "It sounds metallic" he said and proceeded to remove my radio antenna. "That should fix it. Give it a try and let me know" So I drove it around really hoping he was right... but that sound was still there. I took it back and he went through the same speel, "its not that bad, can't you live with it?". By this point I was so frustrated I didn't know what to say or do. How can this idiot undersatnd that I didn't pay almost 30 grand for a truck advertised as "quite" to hear a ringing, whining sound every time I drive near or slightly over the speed limit. Shoot, my Honda Odyssey doesn't start whining when I drive it at 90MPH. He said he didn't think it was the XM antenna and really didn't know what to do next. He then turned me over to the Server Manager who said that he would call Ford and ask them about it and then call me back. Yeah right. It's been a week now and I've heard nothing (nor do I expect to). Eventually I will continue to trouble-shoot the problem in the hopes of solving it. I plan to tape record the noise post it online for others to comment on. This has me sick to my stomach and is forcing me to consider selling my lovely (in most other regards) Ford truck.
