I had a 2004 f150 with a chip key. Did not like it at all. Key is so thick it made my key ring bulky. Anyway, I have never figured out what a chip key does for me. If a chip key is stolen, it will work anyway. The only way a chip key will help is if someone gets your key, makes a copy and returns it to you. I am not a thief, but if I intended to steal your truck, I would just keep your key, not make a copy. Besides if you want a copy the chip key costs about $35 around here.
I was told by Ford that the Superdutys are Commercial Vehicles and that is why they dont have the chip. I agree with many of the others that the Lariet and King Ranch are not used for commercial use so why not put the chip in? I paid $42,000 for my 05 F-350 and the $12,000 Focus gets a chip in it's key. If they want to get your truck they are going to get it but why not make it a little harder for them?
the superduties are not chipped same goes for e series and the excursion.
The Excursion was the only vehicle in the Super Duty line to had a chipped key. For some odd reason it was never done on the Super Duty pickup even though they're stolen way more often than the Excursion.

From what I understand the chip makes it almost impossible for thieves to start the car with or w/out a key. Chipped cars are much less likely to be stolen.
