is it just me, or does anyone else on this site have a total lack of tolerance for ignorant salespeople? i would like to hear some stories. thanks, matt
I avoid salespeople. The worse component of an ignorant dealership is the Parts people and the Maintenance dept.
I do not talk to salespeople who just started.
I do not talk to salespeople who do not own the brand they sell. (I cannot belive how many there are!!!)
I do not talk to salespeople who do not know thier product. A few simple questions can determine that. Just ask for a dually F-250 and see what they tell you.

I recently went to the parts deptartment to order some 4.30 gears for my Excursion only to have the guy tell me that Ford doesn't make 4.30s. It wasn't on his screen so... That was loads of fun convincing him otherwise. Stubborn ***.
It's amazing to me when you go to the parts dept. how many times they have to print out the schematics so I can point out the part to them. I had to do that for a SHOCK BOLT yesterday!
But, I don't buy new cars/trucks. I feel they're a waste of money. Although dealing with the used car salespeople at dealerships is just as bad. I like to find a good used car salesman who ownes his own lot and knows vehicles in general and is not afraid to tell you where and how they got the vehicle.
My wife gets mad at me because I have been known to frequently just walk out of any retail establishment because of poor service and drive 20 miles to buy the same thing from someone who cares.
And don't get me started on dealership service managers, they are more crooked than all the doctors, lawyers and politicians lumped together. I bet most service managers would sell thier own mother winter air for their tires, in the SPRING, AND charge them a premium price!
I've yet to have one say something to me I didn't already know. Or, that I knew was wrong.
A lot of them have been trained, or something, to recognize the person who knows what they are doing, and to "stay out of the way" - "I'll be over here when you need me"... that's about the only salesperson I like.
Nope, not just you. What amazes me is that they survive and make a living being ignorant. I guess they prey on the even less informed customers?
I'll just walk away once I realize what I'm dealing with. When I bought my current truck, I actually sent the sales manager away. Not sure if he was ignorant... never got that far. He was just slimy and thought he was too cool.
Luckily the owner was there and he approved my deal...
I actually found that if you introduce yourself to them with the opening line of "I dont need to be sold anything, and if you try I'll leave." things work out pretty well from there! My dealer is new to the job, an idiot, and drives a toyota car... I actually liked buying from her because she kept her mouth shut and listened when I spoke!!!

I would broaden the scope of this statement to just be ignorant "people"- whether they are trying to sell something or not.
This time last year I was looking at buying a used crew cab dually from a local lot. Took it out for a test drive with the saleswoman. The thing had a terrible (and I do mean terrible!) vibration. It was so bad that I only went about half a mile. The saleswoman tried to tell me that it was "just a low tire", so we stopped and checked them... all appeared to be OK, but she kept insisting that this horrible shake was due to improper inflation.
Then, of course, there are all the idiots who have tried to talk me out of buying a V10 and into buying a diesel. I put an end to that pretty quick!
I have told this story before but it is worth repeating. I had a moron Ford Salesman tell me about the improvements of the 6.0 PSD over the 7.3 PSD. He claimed they had moved the location of the spark plugs. Yes, there are great Ford salespeople out there and on this forum but most of them are scuzzballs that are too lazy to get a real job.

Help me out here NoMo. Since I am 100% locked in on buying a V10 SD and I will be buying before 7 April (ordering actually) through Jeff Clark, I tend to talk about my impending purchase a lot. I am stoked.
Every single time I bring up my decision to purchase a gasoline powered SD that I will be using to pull a fifth wheel I get flamed. "No one pulls with gas anymore" is the most common, or "Who in their right mind would buy a truck for pulling and NOT get a diesel?" is another.
I am not a timid person and at 6'4" and 240 I don't back down very quickly, but I am not one with a quick humorous wit or one that thinks up cute responses on the cuff. What are some of the better responses to the question that every singe V10 SD owner hears?

WOW - We must've been brothers in a previous life... I'll do the same thing. And it irks my wife to no end. The biggest offender to me, is Best Buy... When I have to tell 3 different people 5 different times, that I don't want their crappy extended warranty, I'd rather deal with a computer and order online.
But sticking to the topic at hand... Before I got my V10, I was dealing with a salesman on a 2000 7.3L PSD. Beautiful truck. Had everything I wanted. Was ideal... (NOT bashing the V10, I own one. ) I'm an electrical engineer with IBM, and Have had about 6 years worth of math/calculus/etc.. So I'm pretty good with figures in my head.
I hate the numbers games they play to get you to buy a vehicle. At the time, I had a F150 Waldoch 4inch lift, turbo charger. Pretty sweet truck (wish I still had it). But he did the normal Here is what we'll give you, what the truck you want is worth, etc. Playing 4 corners with the numbers.
Well, I told him no. The whole deal sucked. He was ripping me off on my trade-in (BIG TIME). Well, he goes to his manager, as they always do, comes back out... He very heavily was pushing that after talking to his manager that the monthly payment dropped by $50/month. Well, I started crunching the numbers as he's staring at me with a stupid look on his face... I had figured that the only thing that changed was he added an additional $2K to the downpayment (out of my pocket).
I said no! Kindly asked for him to give my keys back, and left. Never been back to that dealership, never will. Also, have told just about everyone I know to stay away from them.
this post came about because i got to thinking about what timcommon said a few posts ago about the salesmen telling him horrible things about the fuel a V10 would consume. i would have to blame some of their ignorance on the fact that there probably isnt any salesmen that have even seen or drove a V10 from their lot because there doesnt seem to be any! few and far between. still, the salesperson should be promoting what they sell, not badmouthing it. do salespeople make any money on a person that orders a truck instead of buying whats on the lot? does ford motor company take a hard look at what people are ordering and why?

Thanks,

Good question. Whenever people see my V10 badge at campgrounds, the first question is always: 'Why didn't you just get the diesel?". I wish I had an answer that would have them wondering why they got the diesel instead of the V10.

I have been asked the same question and my response is: I don't tow enough to justify the $5,000.00 extra expense of the purchase of the vehicle. If I was towing the 5'er full time I might have considered a diesel but I doubt it since I hate the smell and it burns my eyes.
Just tell them you saved $5k on the upfront purchace, and don't have to deal with $75 oil changes, $55 air filters, two $100 batteries, 2 $60 Fuel filters, your front end parts including tires last longer, and then (if you have a 3V with 4.30s) you say that your truck has 90% of the rear wheel torque that a 6.0L diesel has. That should about cover the basics, lol.
