I'm selling my '93 F-series and building/driving my bronco in its place, using the $$$ from the truck to do some work to the Bronco and I need the OD over the NP435s 1 to 1 high gear.
Would the M5OD be strong enough behind a lightly modded 4.9 that would be used for trails and some mud/sand? Or should I just go with the ZF?
For offroading, the ZF is going to be better because of the granny low gear. I have a T-18 in my truck, and even in low range I wish it would go a little slower sometimes.
As far as strength goes, the M5OD will hold up behind a six no problem.
They are interchangeable, so whatever the spline count is, they're the same.
If you're going to be doing 'hardcore wheeling' then the ZF all the way. The M5OD is hit and miss. I have over 150k on mine, and it still shifts great. One of these weekends I'll drain the original fluid out of it, too.
Not sure about the slave cylinder - try checking the part numbers online. If they're different, well...
