Flushing's simple. Nothing hard at all. And though I'm certainly not considered a tree hugger by those that know me, I think it pretty wasteful and environmentally unsound to just dump glycol because it's "old".

Sure, the anti-corrosives deplete, and the reserve alkalinity declines, but that can easily be restored. I wouldn't do it without coolant filtration, either.

After adding some Winn's Radiator Treatment to mine, and bringing the SCA's up a smidgen with Pencool 3000, Polaris Labs told me I was "good to go".

I found that a comprehensive coolant lab test was an investment that was worthwhile and gave me some peace of mind.

Maybe nothing. Like I said, I'm just starting to learn about the coolant systems on these trucks. I'm not afraid to try it, I just don't know what I'd need to do or how to do it. Advice would be appreciated.

Just got back from that search. Found out that Ford now approves the ELC for Feb '99 on. My truck was made after that so no worries as long as nothing else gets mixed in.

Yes, you can, and that is what I did on my 2000. You probably should flush your system regardless of what you put back in. A good flush is still way less hastle than the testing and additive.
FWIW, my next fill will also be with Rotella ELC, hopefully it will be the last coolant I will ever have to buy for this engine.

Here's what the engine manufacturer has to say about ELC's:
http://www.internationaldelivers.com...pdf/dyk299.pdf Read page 2 if nothing else.

Thanks, that cutoff date and eng. ser. # for the T444E are 2/29/99 and 940614.
My build is Nov 98 and sre. is 668495. I can`t use the new raspberry colored ELC but want a long term coolant with my upcomming flush am I ok with the gold extended life stuff. It seems a real pain to keep up with the additives constantly. Thanks

As long as you completely flush out the green coolant, you can use the gold coolant. From what I understand about changing from the green to the gold coolant, if any green is left in the system then you still have to use the SCA additives. It's as though you are topping off the green coolant with the gold even if most of the coolant in the system is gold.

I thought there were problems with seals andgaskets on the older engine with the use of either gold or red.

Somebody stop me if I'm wrong.

there`s a shop down the street that invested in a flushing machine for radiators and another for trannys. both procedures go for about 70.00 bucks each and I think would be thorough is this worth it especially to get all the green out? I just had my volvo get-around car`s trans done and can see where the benefits are there.

Sorry for so many posts, i did some research on NPG+ coolant from Evanscoolingsystems.com, a propylene glychol base. If I coud afford it right now I would switch.($27.75/gal x 19 gals. =527.25). Some guys on this and other forums run it and love it. Cookie88 does I think. That price is going to 30.00 next month!

Tom from Evans was very informative and not pushy. You must purge ALL other water and fuid from radiator and block before using this stuff.I think to be safe I have to stay with the original green plus additive unless someone knows that I can change over.
