Keep Hearing About The Autospring 2" Leveling Kit, But Where Do You Buy It And Can You Install It Yourself.
Was Looking At The Daystar, But It Is 2 1/2" Which W/ My Heavy Toolbox Might Put The Nose Up Higher Instead Of Level.
yes it can be installed without spring compressor. i've just ordered mine from ebay for 100$ incl. shipping. but you may have to take out that giant bolt at the bottom of the strut. i read up on these before i ordered mine. I'm hoping the strut will swing out enough (w/out taking off that bolt) to bolt on the spacer, and keep lowering the lower control arm to give space to re assemble. But some other brands you have to dissassemble the spring., and those i've seen are higher. BTW you have to also remove the upper control arm ball joint and the sway bar bolts. just watch the brake lines also....paul
I did the 2" AS a few weeks ago. You will need to remove the big bolt at the bottom of the strut. 30 mm deep well socket, you can get one at AutoZone. Really not to bad of a job, about one hour per side if you take your time and follow the directions that come with the kit. The only thing I did that was not mentioned in the instructions was to unbolt the bracket holding the brake hose to the frame which allowed a little extra slack without pulling on the hose. Actual lift was close to 2-3/8". On my SuperCrew I till have about 1/2" of rake.
53deere....i recieved my 1 1/2" kit today (autospring) and the top and bottom plates are welded off center, (welding job not the best) was yours this way? and the small steel support pieces are welded in at an angle, prob. to allow it to lower to 1 1/2, yours are prob. vertical i would think to get 2". I only wanted about 1 1/2 increase in height, so per your results, 2" actuall part height results in 2 3/8", i'll prob. get 1 3/4 to 1 7/8". Sound logical you think?....i didn't want to go very high because stock tires look very small in that large fender opening., i just wanted to level it out. Plus a bit more room to change oil and such. thanks!.....paul
I bought my kit on ebay, $100 delivered to my door. Yes, on the new kits the top and bottom plates are offset to move the top of the spring inward just a little. I guess there were some trucks where the spring would rub on the upper A arm, others said they never had a problem. Even on my 2" kit the little brace pieces that are welded in are at an angle, not sure why but I don't see that it matters. Looked like it was mig welded together so there is some spatter and such but it's not coming apart. Appeared to be painted at least as well as the rest of the truck frame is and when it's installed you don't really see it any way. The 2" kit measures 1-5/8" high and on mine at least gave ~ 2-5/16" to 2-3/8" lift. From what I read the 2-1/2" kit has a 1-3/4" spacer. If your spacer actually measures 1-1/2" thick I'd guess you'll get almost 2" of lift. I was after 2" of lift, actually got a little more, but I'm happy with how it looks. Right now it has the factory tires on, only 600 miles on the truck, and I'll probably leave them for now. When they do get replaced it'll probably one size bigger. Aslo for what it's worth, I've read three different places that the only alignment that should need to be corrected is the toe-in. I measured my toe-in before the lift and reset it after the lift myself. I've been running it for almost two weeks and it seems fine, handles the same as before. If for some reason it wears the tires faster that'll just allow me to buy new bigger BFG's sooner.
53deere...about how much did the toe in change? i would assume you would have to bring the toe-in in, if the tie rods are behind the wheels, and how do you get an acurate measurement on this? i always get mixed up on the clockwise or counterclock wise rotation of the adjuster sleeves. i'm suprised the camber isn't effected just a bit...paul
I measured front and back on my tires using the same center tread block to hook the tape measure. I checked it before I installed the lift and it measured the same, no toe in or toe out. The spec I've seen for these trucks is -0.1" to 0.4". After the lift it was off by about 1/2", If I remember right I had to lengthen the tie rods. I put paint marks on the tie rods before starting and it ended up I had to turn each one exactly one full turn. After setting the toe in I drove the truck and then rechecked it. I rechecked these measurements 3 or 4 times at least both before and after the lift just to make sure.
i would still recomend a front end alignment. mine was way out after install of the daystar.
What was way out? We already said toe in would be out, and a 1/2" is way out. Camber/Caster hardly change. Most modern alignment shops will give you a printout with the before and after specs.
I'm not going to go get (pay for) an alignment. I corrected the toe-in myself and based on others the caster & camber don't change, at least not enough to put it out of spec. Next time I have my truck in my shop I'll check the camber if I think of it, but it looks OK and the truck drives and handles fine.
DON'T i repeat DO NOT get an aligment i jsut instaleld the 2" kit ..was so easy and i heard all this about getting an alignment but its not needed....well on the autospring kit anyways...i got mine done and it was perfect all in spec...caster was off 5 degrees but thats not a big deal rest was all fine..DON"T GET IT DONE
