Intercooler?

Am interested in adding an intercooler to my 94 F250 factory turbo. Does anyone have a set of pictures showing such an install??

Welcome to FTE.

If it's a Powerstroke there are some pics floating around in the 94-97 PSD forum. If it's an IDI....I would be interested in seeing that install as well.

Nope, it is a straight non-power stroke turbo with the short tube between the turbo and the intake.

I do not remember where I got these, I was talking to someone a while back that did one on his 92 F350 with an ATS turbo. I think they were his.

There are three more pics I uploaded to my gallery in the mods and diagrams album.

I also do not remember which kit this is.

I seem to remember I found this guy on snowplow.com.

Thanks Dave. That gives me an idea of where I need to plumb in the tubing. I will probably be fabricating my own stuff due to the price of the kits. I already have an intercooler heat exchanger available.

Nice....How much power can you make on a stock IDI with just a turbo, CAC, and turning up the fuel? 250? 300? How much boost can the stock headgaskets really hold on a daily basis?

Scott if we told you that you would want to sell that 01 for an IDI motor.

I am running over 18 on my 6.9.
With the higher compression ratio 18 makes it run good enough to make the Dodge boys and a lot of Power Strokes look twice.

Stock 94 to 97 Power Strokes don't stand a chance.

Haha...that's awesome Dave . I can push about 34-36 PSI through the turbo at a little shy of 350 hp at the rear, so I'm fairly confident that she'll hold her own against all but purpose built vehicles.

Anyways, the reason I ask is bacause I've been kicking around the idea of buying a white 93 F-350 srw 4x4 to keep for MrsCookie to use as her "farm truck", but I can't leave anything stock, not even her Windstar, so I wanted to get some idea of what the IDI would be capable of with just your basic bolt ons.

I read this fourum every day, but if I get this truck I'll be bugging you guru's till you get sick of me........of course, maybe you already are.

Well I will help you a ways, but I am gonna have to keep a couple of secrets to myself.

Learned that from the NASCAR boys.

I have been thinking about a little head gasket work so I can kick mine up a little more.

One of these days I am going to be somewhere that there is a dyno that I can really see what I have.

For right now I just load it up and go pick on a Dodge Cummins or Duramax.

I can say those Duramaxes are fast, till you put something on the back of one. What a wus with a couple of tons on it.

hey dave, is there allot of room in the 92, or is it like the 87-90?? i was thinking about a cooler for the 88, but there is only about 1 1/2 inch between the grill center bar and radiator. i need something to do this winter, and a reconfiguration of the intake setup might be just the ticket. i was thinking about an electronic dual reading thermostat with electric thermocouples to mount in the air intake and plenum to see the temp difference of the charge, cold air intake, and an intercooler.

i just bought me a 94 straight diesel, but the turbo was taken off when the engine was swapped, anyways, i got the turbo with the truck along with some other spare parts. i am thinking about using the uppipe from the ford and a turbo off a dodge, i have a hx35 with a 28 cm housing and i think a h1c with a 12 or 14 cm housing, anyways, i will put one of those turbos on there and get a set of heads i have done up for o-rings and put those ehads on there and see how much it takes to blow the bottom end out of it... another thing used to gain h.p. and is often overlooked is a 4,000 rpm governor, i had one on my ford n/a with 300+,000 miles on it before it blew up. i am interested in cookies 350 hp at the rear wheels, is that a idi or not?

89ford7.3, Cookie has an 01 F250 so it is a 7.3 Power Stroke.

tjc transport, mine is an 86 so I have less room than yours does.
The 92 thru 94 does have a bit more room than ours do.
I have seen a truck that used spacers behind the grill to space it out about an inch and a half. Looks stock till you get real close to it. Might get you enough room for the intercooler. If you look in my gallery in the mods and diagrams album there is another picture of the above setup. He chopped holes in the front bumper and located the intercooler down low below the AC condensor. There is more room down there since it is below the condensor. But you do have to modify the grill and gravel pan supports a bit.

I have been doing a bit of reading on this.
The general consensus is,
inlet air temp increase of 1 degree = 3 degree increase in EGT.
intake vacuum from a restricted air filter 1 PSI of vacuum = 6 degree EGT increase
altitude 1000 feet higher = 25 degree EGT increase
boost above about 8 PSI the air temp increase offsets the increased air density
5 degrees of inlet air temp drop = about 1% power increase
