Remote Start w/Alarm Problem?

Some background:
I've had my 2005 F-250 XLT Sport w/V-10 for almost a year. I had the dealer install the Ford option Remote Start, Keyless Entry, Security w/Siren (2W7Z-19G364-AA) prior to delivery. The dealer's service department couldn't figure out how to install it so they subcontracted it to a local electronics shop.

The problem(s):
I don't have any good documentation on how it should work but I have some definite problems.
1. Opening the drivers door with the key, then opening the door sets off the alarm.
2. The remote start does start the truck BUT it will sometimes run about 5 minutes, shut off, restart, shut off, restart, shut off, (maybe) set off the alarm. This problem is very random as it does not happen every time, every other time, etc.
3. Opened the unlocked door this morning and the alarm went off.

Anyone have a clue as to what exactly do I tell the dealer?? I'm sure that when they try it (once or twice), it will work just fine. I INTEND to get it to the dealer as soon as I can but has anyone else seen problems with this system??
Thanks for all comments.

Tell the dealer you want the name of the shop that did the work. Take it to them DIRECTLY. The dealer won't be able to help you. If they are reputable (Should be, if they get new dealer business), they will back up their work. They should be able to get a manual, too.

I'll try to answer:
1. That's normal. The alarm is using the domelight as a trigger, open the door, light comes on, alarm is triggered. Since SD's have no factory alarm, there's no factory disarm attached to the doors keylock system. You'll need to use the keyfob to disarm, or the ignition on and valet button. Where the button is located and it's use should've been explained to you.
2. This one is a little more complicated. More than likely the system is using the tach signal to determine if the vehicle is running and also to make sure it doesn't over rev. It sounds like the threshold for over-revving is set to low. So when your vehicle idles-up after a few minutes like it's programmed to do, the R/S is seeing this as an over-rev problem, shutting down, and then restarting. This problem can be fixed by having the installer reprogram the system.
3. This is also normal. More than likely the system is set to "passive arm," which means after a set amount of time the system will automatically arm itself. Again the trigger is the domelight activation. You opened the door, and the alarm was triggered.
Hope this helped.

Thanks for the thoughts.

1. I can buy that explanation; just didn't seem right

2. If this is what is happening then the threshold is way too low since I didn't notice any engine speed change.

3. I might but this EXCEPT, this is the FIRST time this has occured in a year of opening an unlocked door.

Yes, I will try to obtain a manual.

Envirocon is right on with his explanation.

I just had a remote start put in my 06 SD and had the same problem with it shutting down after starting. THe shop told me they could get the sensor from the alternator instead of the tach and that should fix the problem. They were right, it has not done that since they fixed it last week.
I would take it to the shop and have them connect to the alternator.

It's easy to test for passive arming. Once you turn the key to off, the system will activate on it's own after 1 minute. So the LED should start blinking like it would if you pressed the arm button on the keyfob, and opening a door, or triggering the shock sensor will cause the alarm to go off. The default setting for this feature is Off. So unless the installer set the system to passive arm, you have to activate the system using the keyfob. If passive arming isn't On, and your alarm still sounded, then yes, there's a problem. That one I can't diagnose as easily sitting at my keyboard.

You can download a copy of the Owner's Manual here.
