I am having some problems with my right hand turn signal on my '78 F250 Ranger Supercab 4x4.
When the headlight switch is in the "Off" position everything works normal.
When the headlight switch is in the "on" position, the RH turn signal dash indicator light is always on and the it blinks very slow.
What would cause this?
Check/clean/ or replace as required the grounds for the RH turn signal/headlight. Should be on or near the rad mount. Couple of black wires. Also check the ground pin inside the turn signal bulb socket.
Most likely it is the socket assembly itself. Bad ground contact, so the running light is using a "floating" ground thru the signal light circuit. Which causes the dash indicator to glow.
Interesting to hear that others are having the same problem with the infamous Ford plastic light sockets that I've had for years, not just on trucks, but Ford cars as well, where do you get a good cheap replacement (new)?-my answer so far has been Pep Boy's for close to $20.00 each!!!!!!!!! otherwise its been the discount parts store (very cheaply made)for around $4.00 each.
This has happened to me w/ both my 76 and my 79 multiple times, everytime replacing the bulb socket fixed the problem. The old ones just get old. I'm not replacing the replacements, just one by one replaceing the old ones.
