Typical coil voltage for mid electronic ign
did get any reponse, maybe it was to long..
Anyway, for those mid-seventies trucks that have the FoMoCo ign boxes, what is the coil supply voltage?
None of the specs I have has a number for it.
I don't believe that the voltage varied for the different color boxes; blue, green, yellow, black, there may be a few others..
Thanks all

I posted a responce......... you may have to go back a couple of pages. Anyway hook your system back to the coil the way it was from the factory, with the red wire to the plus side of the coil then leave that wire alone. Next hook the brain box green wire to the neg side of the coil. The whole system takes the place of the points, and their wire to the neg side of the coil. Then you have to supply battery voltage to the brain box for it to function right. You will need a test light to find the "one" wire that is hot when you are in the starting position & run position on the ignition switch. There is only one wire that will do this, as all the others are only on for accesory, or cut off all together for starting. I have done this on my '71 F-100, 390, and even converted the old point type distributor with guts out of a later model 460 dist. It takes about 30 minutes to do this & is well worth it! I have done SEVERAL FE's without having to find the elusive FE electronic dist. If you need more info just let me know.

I have it all hooked up in the truck and running great. The only difference between your discription and mine is that, I run both the coil and the brain box off the same wire. The resistance wire from the ign switch, supplies power at 9.8 V and the box seems fine with it.
I too have done several of these conversions, on 430/462 MELs and Y blocks. It is a great way to get electronic ign for cheap.
But all of this still doesn't answer my original question..
What is the voltage at the coil for the mid 70's systems?
All the repair books just list a resistance to check the coil with..
