I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I couldn't find these for myself, even with google, but...does anyone have a source for some good, heavy rubber caps/hoods for batteries? I have a bank of them tied to a power inverter, and I'd like to make the area a little safer by covering the positive terminals.
I suppose I could make my own from rubber tubing, but I'd prefer to buy the right thing.
I use boots all the time at work to cover battery terminals. I work on battery powered floor scrubbing machines. Find a local repair shop that works on battery powered floor care equipment. Most equipment manufacturers have a part number for them. You may need to look in the phone book for " Janitorial equipment and supplies", and then find out which of those distributors have service departments.
Nilfisk-Advance (Advance), Windsor, NSS, and Tennant are a few of the major manufacturers of these type machines. You can find their websites easily and then find their service departments in your area. If you still don't have any luck send me a PM and I can send you some.
but go to your local ford dealer and ask the parts guy for the positive post battery cap for a 2003-2006 expedition. they were 2.90 each when i got them.
I tried the link but the section for Category: Home / Battery Accessories / Post Accessories / Battery Post Protective Covers was empty. Is this what you meant?
From your pictures, you might not be able to find covers that will work. I would suggest getting an inner tube, cut a boot out and zip tie it to your cables. Most tire shops will give you old tubes for free.
Having checked out your powerbox project, I'd suggest fabbing up a single cover over the whole row of batteries instead. Much simpler and protects the whole battery from anything you happen to toss into the box.
You will probably be able to make what you need, better than what you can buy. I picked up some rubber membrane sheet off a construction job I worked on. I imagine a tractor inner tube would work. One suggestion I have is to coat your terminals. Most of the stuff out there is kind of goopy, but I found some stuff that isn't, google "battery cable guard". Dries clear and isn't sticky, so the terminals don't pick up dust. I'm sure it's made under different names.
