fan shroud

i need a fan shroud for my 77 highboy w/ a 400 auto. does anyone know if they are engine- or year-specific? i was wondering if i could find a shroud from another 73-79 that would fit, or does it have to be the same combination.i posted in the 73-79 forum but didnt get any responses.

i questioned a few of the vendors about the same thing for my 79, and was told that the shroud is part number specific. i needed to give them the part # of the old one to get the proper one to fit the truck. the only problem with this reasoning is that when the motor mount broke, the fan hitting the shroud took out the piece with the part # on it. so i now have a half plastic, half sheet metal, and half epoxy shroud. it works, but i would still like to replace it with something a little more solid.

i bought my highboy fall 04, and it didnt have a shroud when i got it. hasnt really been a problem yet, i dont use it on the road much, mostly just plowing my driveway and moving hay and other odd jobs. i did notice it was getting warm when i was mudding last summer though, and i would like to fix it enough to be able to pull trailer, so i would like to find a shroud. i was considering going to electric, just because i think my buddy has a fan laying around that would work, and would be easier and cheaper than buying a shroud, then its got the shroud built-in. unless a shroud from a 74 or 76 f350 w/ a 360 would work, then i could get one for free. i should go dig it out and see if it would fit, my dad has a couple junk trucks laying around.

I'd bet you could find a shroud that will fit. It doesn't have to be perfect. Just so it covers most of the radiator and it helps the fan pull the air through the radiator. If you have a electric laying around you could always install it as a pusher on the front.

The fan shroud may not seam like much but it goes a long way. My dad had a highboy and it was always overheating on long trips, when the fan shroud was off. So we replaced it and no such problems.

fan shrouds for these years 73-79 are engine/yr/ac/no ac/heavy duty/regular cooling specific. Dennis Carpenter reproductions (in n. carolina) carries these shrouds. good luck

1977/79 F100/350 400 V8 Fan Shrouds

D7TZ-8146-A .. Shroud, Fan (use w/Std. Cooling, X/C, A/C) .. (ID# D7TA-AA)

D7TZ-8146-D .. Shroud, Fan (use w/Super Cooling Radiator) .. (ID# D7TA-SA)

The engineering (I.D.) number is moulded into the shroud at the upper left corner for all 1973/79 F Series.

5 shrouds are listed for 351M, depending on application and truck serial (VIN) number. Two will match up to the 400's listed.

The above shroud part numbers aren't listed for anything besides 351M/400's

NOTE: D3TZ-8146-C Fan Shroud (ID# D3TA-DA) fits 73/76 360/390's & 73/79 460's for many applications except Super Cooling. It's a bolt on installation for 1965/66 F100/250's with a 352, and will also fit 1967/72 V8's with little or no trimming.
