I have a 2006 F350 V10 XLT. I left the truck in the garage and didn't start it for 5 weeks, I was away. When I tried to start it, it barely turned over. I charged the battery and it was ok. I then checked for current draw when everything was off. On one of the cables that's connected to the + battery terminal I measured about 400 milliamps. This cable is the one that runs from the battery along the top of the radiator to the drivers side of the engine compartment. The 400 milliamps seems too high to me. I can see that this would discharge the battery over a month. Has anybody experienced this? I haven't been to the dealer yet so any help here is appreciated.
400mA does seem high. About the best way to trouble-shoot something like this is to monitor the current draw and pull one fuse at a time until you see a drop. If none of the fuses reveal the culprit, it's possible you have a short somewhere. I wouldn't do much more than that- let the service dept handle it.
with any new car or truck if it's going to be parked for a long time you need to pull a battery cable off. all the electronics still pull for memory and drain a battery down in a round a week.
recharge it and do a proper test. it should be ok. just next time pull off a cable.
400 milliamps is .4 amps. I think my '01 drew .150 amps (150 milliamps) when I checked it awhile ago, when someone in the UK was having a problem with the battery w/his V10.
.4 sounds kinda high. Although, my '01 doesn't have anything besides the computer and the single-disc radio. I'd think a Lariat with the over-head display and climate control would take a bit more... .4 might be right.
I'd start by making sure the battery is OK - load test it.
Timely subject... my 06 just started doing something similar. Friday morning it turned over very slowly but started. Saturday morning, dead as a doornail. Charged the battery all day on Saturday, it started right up Saturday night. Sunday morning, real slow turning over again, this morning it was dead again.
I bought the truck the beginning of December, had the plow put on December 27th. Problem is, I don't know if it's a plow installer issue or a Ford issue.
Ford says that after letting the truck sit more than 40 minutes everything goes into sleep mode so there should be less than 50ma draw.
Thanks for the input, I'll check it out. When I checked and found the 400 ma current draw I had just finished running it. I did not check it 40 minutes after running so it might have well dropped down to 50 ma. I was away again this week so the truck sat in the garage. It started OK this morning. I'm not too worried since it is under warranty.
