No surprise to me.
The newer vehicles like that Magnum are designed to crush to the extent of being written off.

This energy-absorbing damage is now the norm as they want to save peoples lives as opposed to ....still keep the vehicle on the road.

as time goes on people will relize that with the safty they have put on cars the easyer it will be to mangle one , remember the days when you could get away with hitting a tree at around 45 and nothing be wrong other than a skuff on the bumper and not busting any thing but now if you tap one with no speed youve already popped the airbag and busted the windsheild, and totaled the car , now why cant they build a car that when it gets wrecked it can take the hit and blow a air bag up so it stops the driver/passengers not so the car gradually slows 9for the safty of the people )with the bending of the metal

when i get into a wreck i want to hit that steering wheel and have my head bounce off whatever is there and say sonofa that hurt like a ........im not going to do that again look at this bruise ............than hit the end of the seat belt, air bag , and total the car and not learn a thing from it and do it half as hard if eaven that

GO OLD CARS/TRUCKS

Three reasons - lawyers, weight/fuel efficiency, government regulations

Here's the way I see it. Cars today handle better and are generally faster both in top speed and acceleration than their stock-for-stock comparable models of 50 years ago. Law makers and car makers understand that people are more comfortable cruising at 80 or 85 than they were 50 years ago.

So what would you rather they do? Start making 5000 pound cars that handle like pigs and do 0-60 in 12 seconds? Or make our 3700 pound cars handle very well, do 0-60 in 7 seconds, and save your life when instead of 40 mph, you hit a tree at 65? The damage that occurs at a low speed is often times just a side effect of a car that will sacrifice itself for you when you put "the rubber side up" rounding a corner at 70.

Granted, some cars do perform more poorly in a low-speed encounter than others, even when they preform similarly during a high-speed collision. But it seems these days, you can't really judge a car's build quality by the amount of carnage in a low-speed accident.
