Oddly enough you guys are more help then the Sentra forums on a couple of other Nissan forums. Go FTE!
Okay so the ongoing saga of my '92 Nissan Sentra SE-R project car:
The car is having some startup/idle problems. The main problem is that the car won't stay on. Here's what happens: The car fires up without a hitch and idles for a few seconds, then starts to die but then revs back up, this then repeats and each time when the car revs back up, its usually to a lower RPM that before and eventually dies. This whole process takes less than a minute or so.
Another weird tidbit about this issue is that I had the front end elevated on ramps while I hooked up the speed sensor and after that task was done, fired the car up. It ran perfect and I let it sit there and warm up to normal operating temps then backed it off the ramps where it promptly died.
I'm thinking maybe a fuel delivery problem? I can hear the fuel pump clicking and whirring and doing it's thing, but I'm not sure. On suggestion, I'm going to replace the fuel filter and see what happens.
Cap, could be something in the fuel tank as well, try the filter first, if that does not work, the fuel tank should be the next place to look. Drain the fuel, pull the tank, remove the fuel pump and look inside.
Well, lo and behold the car has a new problem. When I went to start the thing this morning, there was a bit of a pop sound and now I have zero electronics. No lights, no nothing, it's dead. Checked the fuses and they all check out. Jump started the car in the remote and futile chance that the battery was dead or not holding a charge. No go. The battery IS brand new. So now I'm stuck and have no clue on what to do. Ahh learning how to repair cars is fun!
