Probably wouldn't hurt to wear a good respirator when doing that. I've been thinkin about this mod but a little leary of heavy rain, wet roads and snow getting to the filter. It would be interesting to make up a flapper on the inlet out of an old heater door and actuator to close it off when you want.
Hey strokin-it: What is that mounted just below your zoodad? Is it a sensor? If so, for what?
Also, has anyone considered switching the location of the battery and filter for more fresh air? Would this increase the water/snow risk to the filter? Is there even room for the battery in the stock filter location if I wanted to take the time and effort to switch them?

I think it's the ambient temperature sensor for the overhead displays. They have to mount them well away, or in this case, upstream of any engine heat so you never get a false reading.
Finished my version of the Zoodad today. I drilled 8 rows of 5, 1/4 inch holes. I drew out a template last night on a 3x5 card. It looks pretty good I think. And while I was there, I installed a 30x23 screen of 1/4 hole mesh behind the grill. My cooling fins are starting to get pretty damaged.

i've been thinking about doing the same thing...! let me know if you do and what you end up using..!
with the kwick filter mod you dont have o worry about a water do you? I hean that is somewhat behind the gill right? I talked with a guy that cut the holes and he ended up covering them because it hurt his gas mileage
. Any comments?
no, water will not get into the filter unless you actually hose water right into it such as when washing it.
i find it hard for the ZooDad to hurt mileage. the purpose of it is to allow cooler air into the engine compartment, mainly right at the filter. cooler intake air= lower EGT's and slightly (negligible) more power and/or mileage. i bet he did the ZooDad at the same time when the fuel stations change their fuel to Winter Blend, which will hurt mileage some. or the combination of "expecting" results from the ZooDad with a slightly heavier right foot could equate to blaming the ZooDad to hurting his mileage.
I tried to find the zoodad on the net and could not find any pics or a good description. What is different from what Strokin / WhatIsHot has done? Is that all the kit is? Holes?
i want to do the zoodad too, have any of you that have done it have any problems with rain hitting the filter when flying down the highway or around town??
I have never had rain get to mine, but I did have some snow get to the filter when I went through some blowing snow. I have a couple of screens for the zoodad but the snow got there somehow??? I closed up the hole for the winter and really cannot tell a difference in performance at all.
you can loose mpg with the zoodad, but that's just because you are putting your foot into it to see if you are getting any better acceleration or power... there are NO physical changes you are making by doing the zoodad mod that would make ANY difference AT ALL in mpg.... as for rain getting in... i have NEVER had it happen and i have driven in some DOWNPOURS at all different speeds and then checked the filter when i got to where i was going and then again when i got back home... no moisture on the filter at all... i am funneling the air through the zoodad, down the stock snorkel, and then it dumps the air right by the 6637 kwik filter... there is a little 90 degree bend at the end of the snorkel that deflects the air towards the 6637, and redirecting the airflow is a very good way to remove any raindrops from it... if you are really worried about it, i'm sure you can mount a flapper style door to close off the opening, simply hook up a manual choke lever to the flapper door so you can open or close the door from inside your cab... i think i am going to do that just so i can close it off in the winter...
Hey Bigredford, I hit that snow aound 100 mile house mid december, snow was light and fluffy, perfect for snowmobiling. Where did it all go? Darn global warming!
