frame sectioning

I am taking apart my 1969 F100 short bed (completely) and was going to add disc brakes to the front and put in an air bag suspension. I am looking to make a mild street rod. Since I would like to get away from the twin I-beam suspension, I thought that I might section the entire front frame of a later model F150 on to my existing frame. I think that in the long run, it would save me a lot of money. I would get a disc brake setup, newer coil spring suspension, rack and pinion steering etc. My question is: "Has anyone ever done this (or known of someone who has) and what was the first year tht Ford trucks came out with rack and pinion steering?" Any help you could give me on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

I think 04 was the first year for rack and pinion, I know the 4x4 trucks used a steering box until then, but I've never been under a 97+ 2wd. The easiest way to get that type of steering is with a Mustang II conversion, but if you're into fabrication, a Torino front frame with a grafted on rack might be the best way to go.
