I was wondering when Ford quit painting its engines Ford Blue and went over to the Grey.
The reason why i ask is because the 300 in my truck is grey, where i assume it should be blue, as its an 83. The reason why i make this assumption is because my 82, was also blue. I know the engine isn't the stock one for the truck, as it either has a rebuilder or recycler tag stuck to the timing cover.
My '81 300-L6 is the color of dirty oil mixed in with a little road dust and a bit of power steering and brake fluid. Also a little color of brown here and there (rust).

Originally, it was blue.
LOL, I bought some degreaser "Pro Force" the color of the degreaser is purple. Works really well to clean an engine.
I also keep on hand a can of Ford Engine Blue and Black and argent to paint the new parts I put on the engine the original factory colors.
My engine was originally blue also. Still is too.
All the wrecking yard searches I've done suggests that the color changed from blue to gray in 1983.
the truth is, all ford trucks built north of the mason/dixon line had blue engines, and all the trucks south of the line had grey engines. I dont know why .

Can't tell with mine--covered with oil, grime, etc--but I guess it's blue then.....lol....
