351C lifter removal

Can you remove the lifters through the heads on a 351C 2v or do you have to remove the manifold? thanks

You have to take the manifold off... They use a valley pan on that motor, so if you are careful, you can re-use it if you blue glue the end seals.

the manifold must come off. but it is not a 8 hour job! to remove the manifold takes 15 mins and about 20 to reinstall. the valve covers take another 25 to R&R.

Its closer to a couple of hours for the job... If you're on meth it takes 15 minutes....

the hardest part is if it has a A/C pump. that makes dizzy removal a PITA. i find intake manifolds a snap. my FE is much harder to do because the valvetrain must be removed. but 351c,351m/400 are pretty simple. sometimes those small bolts on both sides of the carb which go vertical get rusted into the heads.

Yes, it will come off with dist. in place. BTW, I'd use aftermarket intake gaskets instead of the one-piece metal if that's what yours had.

I have replaced it before but with my kids running around always wanting something and me being **** about cleanliness and perfection it takes me awhile. I show it a little so everything has to be perty. what do you mean aftermarket gaskets? I thought they all had the turkey tray for the oil galley, I thought that kept the heat off of the part directly under the carb.

Stock type is the one-piece stamped gasket. Aftermarket has separate pieces for intake & end rails. You could cut the metal part out & use it with the aftermarket gaskets if you wanted to keep it for oil splash.

You and my dad must be long-lost brothers, lol I'll have to search the archives, but it seems that Eric, (Torque1st), recommended just a couple 3/8" holes. I'm going to have to go look now
