ac pulley bypass

I did a quick search and couldnt find much...

I have a 89 F250 w/ 460. The ac pulley and clutch are making horrible noises and have started smoking . The AC doesnt work so I dont want to replace the compressor and I dont want to pay $150 for new clutch and pulley.

Does someone sell an aftermarket bypass made for this year? I have found them for '90 and up but not for this year

will this one work on my '89? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AC-BY...spagenameZWD1V

Have you thought about buying a new belt for a non-A/C truck and re-routing it according to the diagram under the hood? If the sticker's gone, someone here will be kind enough to reproduce it here for you.

Napa doesnt have a nonAC truck in this year in their computers. By bypassing the ac comp. the tensioner doesnt seem like it would do its job and pinch the belt to the pulley

any other suggestions?

The serpentine belt for an AC truck is the same as a non-AC truck. What Ford does is slap on a large pulley in place of the AC compressor if there is no AC.

Either replace your compressor with the large pulley (junkyard item) or take your belt off, and run a string around the pulleys, minus the AC compressor, subtract 2", and that's your belt size.

I have two seperate belts, one runs the power steering and ac. If I run a belt only to the powersteering the tensioner doesnt seem like it would work... is that wrong?

I couldn't tell you without seeing it.

Take a picture, the best you can of the PS/AC setup.

I assumed oyu had the single belt setup, but obviously you do not.

I also dont have any junkyards close to me that have anything I ever need. Is the pulley something I can buy aftermarket or find somewhere used?

Maybe on ebay, car-parts.com.

Without seeing what you have, I can only guess, but probably something like this:

Is your belt a "V" belt, or a serpentine belt? The above is serpentine, obviously.

You put the image on the internet somewhere, and post the URL to that image in one of your posts.

Or you can email me the picture and I'll do it for you.

I found an A/C bypass pulley for my '93 302 at Advance Auto Parts a year or so ago. It bolts on in place of the compressor allowing for the stock belt to be used. Cost was about $30 if I remember correctly.

Childsplay, there is adjustment in the power steering pump. I had the same problem and did like frederic mentioned with the string and minus 2". You can tighten the belt without any issues. I ran my truck this way for 2 years, until my wife decided she had to have a/c since she was pregnant this past summer.

Beware, you are driving on borrowed time. The compressor will seize and throw the belt. You will not have power steering once this happens and these trucks are a bear to steer without it.

The size for a bypass belt should be K060555.
If you know anyone else who is looking for this size, it should be this size.

BTW, you will have to pull the tensioner out of the way a bit, try to find a larger wrench with a bit of leverage to use. Once installed, the tensioner will be in the same position it would be with the normal belt.
