Bypassing ac

Ok I have a bad belt squeal I believe may be caused by a bad ac clutch/bearing.

I removed the belt and turned ac pulley and can hear a kind of scrubbing sound. The squeal goes away If You put soap on the belt so I'm not sure it's the ac or not.
But the soap is starting to make a mess of my engine and I'm getting tired of having soap the belt up before every drive.

My question is can I bypass this without removing the ac clutch or compressor, can this be done with just a shorter belt?

Also is it likely it is the AC(which doesn't work). I have replaced the tension and put two new belts, cleaned the pulleys numerous times, replaced alternator I'm stumped.

If you don't want to fix the a/c, you can usually buy an a/c elimination bracket that removes the compressor and replaces it with an idler pulley. Check out rock auto..

As far as shortcuts, you need to post up what vehicle and engine you're talking about if you want specifics.

88 xlt lariat 5.0 302.

I want to know if it is the ac making the squeal before I make any repairs

More info
The squeal starts as soon as the truck starts changes in pitch and sound depending on weather, sometimes it squeals really loud. The squeal is constant and it seems get higher with increase in spede and sometimes the sound won't go away until the truck goes from 1st to 2nd after putting soap on the belt.

Well if it's a constant squeal, it's pretty easy to track down. Get yourself a length of hose (garden, heater, whatever), and while it's squealing put one end of the hose to your ear, and move the other side around. It'll be obvious where the squeal is coming from. Try not to get sucked into the belt.

Also, have you tried a different brand of belt? I've had more than 1 that squealed no matter what I did, until I tried a different brand. I've got a Goodyear Gatorback on mine right now the squeals for a second every startup right now I've been meaning to replace.

I tried the dayco and I think the other was a nappa belt.
I thought maybe the pulleys where glazed but I cleaned and sanded them down and the noise came back.

I don't care about fixing the ac if it is causing the noise but I'll go try that hose thing right now to see if I can track it down.

Does no one have solution?
I figured this would be a fairly simple fix.
I have bought a belt that is 84 5/8 but I'm not sure if that is correct m. Someone please help me resolve this annoying squeal.

If soap makes it go away it's not the AC compressor pulley bearing making the squeak. You either have a bad idler bearing causing a pulley to be tilted, or your pulleys are no longer in alignment.

I also took that possibility into consideration. But the idler pulley/tensioner is new if that means anything

Although they look all in line except for the smog pump going to the crankshaft looks like it could be off a bit. Which was my second guess

I had saw a diagram online where I could bypass the smog pump and the ac using the same length of belt.

I figured if it wasnt the ac I would just bypass both of them
But it doesn't look like the length was accurate r
The belt in diagram was 84.5 inches I got a 84 5/8 thinking it was close enough.

Bump so if it's not the ac bearing what is my next step to resolve this. And where should I check if the pulleys are out in alignment.

The truck didn't squeal when I bought so I'm not sure how a pulley can just come out of alignment or become tilted. Also like I said the tensioner pulley is new not sure if that the same thing as the idler pulley

Well took it to a shop after work. He hooked his machine to it and put a vacume on it to check for a leak. He said it didn't have a leak and he attempted to charge it but it still wouldn't get cold. He said for $400 he'd put a new not reman compressor, dryer and orifice tube. Ouch I wasn't expecting that much.
