I did the engine off but in run test, and the engine running test. For the engine off test i got what i think is a clear code. It came out as 1 , 1 pause 1, 1 then teh seperator blink then 1,1,1, pause 1,1,1 pause 1,1,1 pause 1,1,1. From what I have read it says that that is no codes in momorey. Then for engine running I got my engine I.D., I turned the wheel, hit the break, did the WOT, then got 4, 4 pause 3,3 then longer pause, then 4, 4 pause 3,3. I think that the 44 is saying im running lean, but the 33 is say that the test was not initiated. I am really confused..... can anyone help me on this. I have a 88 bronco, 302, AOD.
well, the guy that i got my truck from took off the air pump. And about the EGR, I think he did something to that also..... so should i just check the sesor on the EGR? Also, will these codes cause any problems? I was try to solve a problem I am having with my trcuk starting, and now i get these codes.

You will have to go over the whole egr system. The ports underneath can't be plugged. Any vacuum lines have to be hooked up properly. And all the wiring needs to be hooked up properly.
Of course you will always have the 44 since the pump is not working.
Man, the starting prob is such a pain! When I go to start the truck it will just crank and crank and crank.... then after what could be two seconds or a couple try and thirty seconds it will fire up. The thing is that is fires up everytime.... just dont know how long that willtake. I have replaced the solinoid, (cant think of proper name now) the gray module on teh dist., I have used cleaner in teh gas tank. Some people have thought it could be spark, some fuel. I got no idea, and am very pissed. I sometimes think i am running rich do to a stronger than normall exhaust smell..... just thought i would throw that in.
It sounds like you are either flooded, or not getting any fuel. Flooding can be caused by a leaking fuel regulator, or dirty leaking injectors dribbling into the engine. The fuel regulator is the round metal thing mounted on the metal fuel rail on the engine, that has a vacuum line going to it. See if you have any fuel in the vacuum line. If you do, the regulator is bad.
Or you could be not getting any fuel. The fuel system should stay pressurized with the engine off. If it's leaking down, you could have leaky injectors, a leaking fuel regulator, or a bad check valve in the fuel pump. To check this to determine what's wrong, you need a fuel pressure guage tester.
What you may want to experiment with first, is does it help any to hold the accelerator to the floor while you are cranking the engine? This will put the computer in a "clear flooded engine" mode, and it will turn the injectors off. If this helps, then it may be a clue the engine is flooded. If it hurts, then you may have the no fuel problem. If you want to try and help the no fuel problem, turn the key to run for a few seconds, and then back to off. Do this two or three times. This should cycle the fuel pump several times to pump the system up, before you start the engine. This may be a clue of a leaky fuel system if it helps.
Thaks for the help... its really been a P.I.A.. I tried holding the gas, no luck, same starting as normal. I have tried the "building pressure" method for quite awhile now, not a difference really.....although I tell myself it helps sometimes. For some reason I cant help but think spark. It seems to run like a champ when its running. I will try both methods again in the morning........ Ill let you know the up date as soon as I can, and your help is great, its been killing me shooting in the dark with my lack of knowledge.
If you have been getting a bunch of black smoke out of the tailpipe, and the pedal to the floor is helping, then it does sound like some of the injectors may be dripping fuel in the engine.
Somewhere along the metal fuel rail on th engine, you may or may not find a fitting with a cap that looks like a tire valve. Some of the trucks did nothave them. This is the pressure test port. They have a guage that plugs into the port, and reads the fuel pressure. I didn't have this guage, so what I did was relieve the fuel pressure with my finger and a rag, and then took a little tire valve tool and took the guts out of the test port. I then slipped a rubber fuel line over the port and tightened a hose clamp around it. I then hooked up a pressure guage to the other end to read the fuel pressure.
You could also see how much a garage would want to test it for you. If they suspect dirty injectors, they have some cleaner they can run through the engine. This is not like the stuff you put in the fuel tank. It is very strong, and they actually take the fuel line off, disconnect power to the fuel pump, and run the engine on this super cleaner stuff in the can after they hook the can to the fuel rail.
a new twist. I forgot to mention that sometimes when i put it in park it will die. Sometimes it will do it all day, then some days it wont happen at all
Does it idle really rough sometimes? Your problem, whatever it is, may be causing the engine to run rough sometimes, and that would probably cause it to stall. Also, depending on what's going on at the egr, the egr can cause it to run rough and stall too.
I have noticed pumping the gas real fast when staringt the truck will help. I have been to busy to get into really under the hood. Im going to try and clean the TPS and the IAC also, then check for any vacuum leaks. Why do you think pumping the gas helps?
