Battery gauge spikes....
It's my G/F's vehicle. It's a 1995 E150 Conversion van (tuscany) 5.8L w/E4OD and 187K miles. It has an intermittant battery gauge spike I noticed when headlights brightened one night for about 5 seconds. Very intermittant every few days. I thought I noticed some overflow around the battery caps maybe from boiling? Battery is at least 3 years old but cranks good. Alternator or regulator? I don't know the maint. history but in the last 3 years I have replaced: blower resistor, front sway bar bushings, fuel filter, radiator, broken intake bolt and regular oil and trans fluid preventive maintainence servicing. The van was in the MI salt for the first 7 years and now is in KC's salt environs. This voltage spike has been happening for about 2 weeks. Any thoughts much appreciated! Thanks.

I would check and clean the battery cables connections at the battery, solenoid and engine ground. Also check the plugs and the stud bolt on the Alternator and make sure they are making a good connection.
