i bought a 77 highboy to keep me busy. was the fuel fill for the front tank located in the left rear wheel well? how was it arranged? i don't have a cap for it either. just a rag stuffed in the hole. so, i'm looking for a cap, too.
If you have 2 factory tanks, the fill tubes were located on the drivers side both fore and aft of the wheel well. Some saddle tanks (that sat between the frame and body) have fill necks right before the rear tire inside the fender well.

I think the highboys had just the in-cab tank from the factory, because the front saddle style tanks, and the between the frame rear tank that were used on the other models did not fit the unique narrow rear frame that the highboys had.

That pretty much sums it up, no "highboys" had a frame mounted tank, Only in cab
Considering the Price of Gas ,I would suggest investing in a Locking cap
