California truck, or not
I was wondering how you can tell if your truck is a <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:State><st1lace>California</st1lace></st1:State> truck, or not. After doing a search I’ve found that my truck has spent some time there, possibly bought there.
Also is to be aware of if it is a cal truck?
Thanks,
/Rich

ok few things......
1. it will have a ca emissions sticker under the hood.
2. the sticker on the passenger side valve cover is "TEAL" in color.
3. underneath the turbo is a black hockey puck looking thing that says "BOSCH" on it.(fuel dampner)
4. your truck will sound like a 99-03 truck when it idles. meaning much quieter than an obs truck.
5. your pcm code.
let us know how you turn out...
all this stuff is a fact as i have seen it first hand...(my dads truck)

Well, it looks like I have a California truck in New Hampshire....go figure. I have the sticker under the hood that says something like, "meets cal federal emissions laws" and it's on the valve cover sticker too. Although, at first I had my doubts because of how loud she is at idle. Very loud.
Now, what emission parts should be taken off, if anything? Any issues that I should be aware of and did all the emission stuff hurt the performance of the motor?
thanks,

1997 is correct. My friend has a Fed truck and his is definitely louder. His also has a few mods, including a programmer, my truck runs rings around his. There are advantages-split shot injectors, higher fuel pressure (no need for fpr mod), fuel damper. Disadvantages-try changing a fuel pump, GPR monitor (prevents you from doing things like the GPR thermostat mod). Overall, I'm very happy with a my CA truck, aloha.

Yup, did the fpr mod last night and there really wasn't much of a change, if any. The throttle response is better, but no real increase in performance. I'm guessing the improvement came from the new screen on the fpr. The old one was real bad and I damaged it pulling the fpr off. I need to check my fuel pressure, wondering if I should pull it out now, although she sure does run good.

wowowowowowow i did not relate this and your other post together. you truck has the ca kit already on it...you may wanna reverse what youve done or you may wear out your fuel pump...thats the word i hear.

Need to drive two hours north after work and thought since I have a new fuel pump, I'd better make the fix today. Went home at lunch, pulled the plug, pulled the spring, and the triangle piece out, but no BB. Pull the FPR off and still can't see it, pull the bottom piece off, and no BB. Well where did it go? I shaked the thing and heard nothing. Start blowing the FPR, yummy, and there it is....it snaked itself down one of the ports to the valve. Finally go to put the FPR back on and I'm missing the o-ring to the fuel pump. 10 mins later with the longest pair of pliers I have, next to the mouse nest, I grab her and she back together.
Not sure what the other (non-cal) FPRs look like, but if I was to do the FPR mod with the FPR on the truck, the BB would fall down the port immediately. Basically it's next to impossible to do the FPR mod while it's on the truck.
Also, my screen was a mess, about half covered with gunk, (24 total miles) so I'm guessing it's time to change the fuel filter?

i have never seen the ca trucks fpr spool and other pieces....but on a fed truck this couldnt happen unless you put the bb in the wrong place....
to all who read and are gonna do the mod
in order of removal stock
nut,spring,spool
for the mod
nut, spring, bb inside of spool,spool.....
