I was wondering what a good price would be for a 78 f-250 4x4 w/ a 460 engine, dana 44 front/60rear np205 transfer, C-? auto. The truck has a dime size spot of rust on tailgate. interior is very good. new 33" all-terains the original 4 speed comes w/it. i paid $3500, did i get screwed?
Also a 79 f-350 supercab 4x4 with a 460 interceptor, dana 60 frt and back. full time four wheel-drive. engine needs a main seals, starters, and radator. its an auto there is bed and interior is ok. is $500 too much? any info would be greatly appricated

Vehicles with engine transplants always scare me. I've bought a couple over the years and have seen some pretty shoddy work. Neither of those trucks has the original engine in it. I don't think you could go wrong with a $500 truck tho' even if it was just for parts. Just my $.02.
Holy crap, a '79 F350 4x4 with a 460 & auto. And a Supercab to boot. That is a hell of a truck to start with, and for $500.....!! You better buy it or tell me where it is.....!!!
Meany,
Your describing Good deals. Can you fix them yourself?
Secondly, any Ford Big Block bolts up to a C-6 and small blocks to C-4.
Thirdly, what is a 460 interceptor? I believe interceptor was a term used buy Mopar for a police option on the Grand Fury III. It was a 440 C.I.D. engine.
Good Luck, Have Fun,

The 460 interceptor is 10 times the engine the 440 interceptor is IMHO.. it similiar to Cobra Jet heads! My uncle had an LTD with one.. he blew away a dodge cop car with a 440 motor.. annihilation.. I think all he did was exhaust maybe intake carb .. the restrictive part of that engine combo was exhaust the heads are great... tiny little cats on the stock exhaust yuk restictive!! lol heavy, but fast as hell!!
You have to get the right years but it wasn't a stock 460 for some glorious years... It was like a it was a sweet big block special for interceptor police cars!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 460 shares the bell housing pattern with the 351m/400 and maybe some other.. I believe there was 351's with c4 trannies? You could build a c4 to take serious power.. and lose less power than with a c6 tranny.. c6 is tough as hell tho!

Holy thread resurection batman! I was looking up info on the right 460 interceptor to get.. I want one like my uncles.. sorry for dragging up something so old lol
There isnt much in the way of 460 interceptors, and you can build a better motor than a interceptor, and buy the sticker for your aircleaner. Bout the only difference on the cop car motor was the heads with slightly larger valves. You can buy heads that are way better out of the box, and have them right away, instead of beating the bushes for a PI motor.
