"When the CPS goes bad (naughty naughty), the computer thinks there is a problem and basically
shuts the truck off. It could be intermittent (runs fine at cruise, but wont idle) or
or it could be absolute. (truck just up and died! no reason!) There is no timeline, no
precursor, no warning. You could go 100k miles, or 10k miles between failures. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
One sign of a failed CPS is your Tach will not move while cranking the engine over.
This is on long extended cranking. Short cranking, on a good CPS will not register either
If you have an AIC (APCM) installed, it may not registered RPM's either. The Tach gets its
reference from the CPS sensor and if its not sending a signal, no tach."<o></o>

Reason: update
Mine was bad last year and the best way to describe it is that it hiccupped under accelleration, just a sudden jolt that seemed to go all through the truck. I replaced it with one I bought on eBay for 50.00 and kept the old one even though it malfunctions. I understand that sometimes they'll go bad and the truck will not restart. The old one will get you back home if it has not failed totally.
Yup. Just cutting out at random intervals. Just like someone had turned the key off then right back on. Mine would do it just cruising down the highway.
Mine would hickup sometimes while driving and then usually stall at full stops. I limped home by keeping a little throttle at the stops. Replaced it and problem gone. Have a new spare in the glove box as well. Welcome to the PSD
What does the CPS look like and where is located? One of the ambulances at work needs a third CPS in 100,xxx miles and the boss is tired of paying the Ford garage to replace it. Is it something I can do in the parking lot with basic tools? Its an E350 so that complicates things alittle Im sure.
