Exhaust Header problem

i've got an 88 F150 302 4X4 that i recently took out the stock manifold's and bought and want to install FlowTech headers. my problem is that i cannot get them to fit into place. I'm off about a 1/4 to 1/2 an inch. I'm hitting a plate on the frame (or it could be the frame itself) that apears to be adjustable. I'm not sure if it is, and if so if it's ok to adjust by myself without something falling on me while under the truck. I've provided some pictures, bad angles/quality but i'll outline this bolt that looks like it could adjust.
thanks for any help any help will be greatly appreciated.

i'm thinking if i adjust the bolt, that the frame/plate or whatever it's connected to will move up enough so i can my headers into place..

I'd call the manufacturer and ask why its not fitting right. Maybe someone sold you non-4x4 headers.

well when i bought them i specifically mentioned that it was 4WD and he said they would fit for that model. do you know what that bolt might be for?, it looks like it would adjust and move the plate up a little which would clear the end of the headers.

That nut you have circled is for the rubber engine mount. The engine mount has a stud that goes through that bracket - and you've circled the nut that holds it on. That bracktry isn't going anywhere unless you fabbed up a custom mount - which is not even close to necessary.

Maybe you got 2wd headers by mistake - i duno...but I'd call them and tell them where it's hitting and find out what you can do.

looks like the motor mount perhaps? not sure on how much adjustment you'll get out of it.

No nothing will drop on you. It is the motor mount nut. you can loosen it but the frame piece isn't going to move.-Bob

Loosening that will do you no good, just leave it.

If you have the headers bolted up to the engine and the header is hitting that bracket - you've got the wrong headers or those headers are defective.

Talk to the company...

Trade them in for another set of headers, making sure to get the exact right ones for your application. Hopefully that'll mean the same part number again. There's a good chance that those are the "right" headers and they just don't fit. With cheap headers like that, they are built using a jig that locates the cylinder head flange and the collector flange, and a few random "interference" points. Sometimes, they don't wind up actually fitting in the chassis, so tell whoever you bought them from that they're defective and you need a different set.

You should also double check the part number and application yourself, so you are more educated when you talk to the guy at the parts store or summit racing or whatever.

Here Flowtech's product page:

i actually bought them from an Ebay store, and i emailed the guy back still waiting for a reply. i did some research last night looking at the product number and my truck..and i came up with that it won't fit a 4x4, i think.

none the less, i'm going to call around local shops to get some quotes as i live in Canada and i don't really want to have to pay the exhange/duty unless i absolutely need to.

Part number is

12000FLT FlowTech Block Hugger Headers

thanks again for everyone's input!

Those are universal block hugger headers, designed to be a "universal" fit for street rods. In reality, they probably won't fit anything very well. In any case, they are the absolute wrong headers for your application. Flowtech and many other companies make application-specific headers for your truck.
