mice in engine bay

I have an 06 Expedition. While checking under the hood abouta week ago I noticed white stuffing sticking out from the cloth cover that serves as a battery heat shield.

I suspected a mouse and placed a few glue traps under the hood taping them in various locations. I caught one the second night and then another one about four days later.

I park this vehicle in my paved driveway and use another car to commute to work so this vehicle sits for about three days at a time.

I have not located any other damage and can't be the only person that this happened to. I have more traps placed and hope that no damage other then to the 22.00 battery shield has occurred.

Does anyone know the location of the most likely nesting spots for mice in an expedition?

Wow!! You really need to drive your Expedition more often. I would think that anywhere cozy, with covering is where they would nest. I do hope that they only camp out in the engine bay and not in the interior itself. Have you removed the battery cover to see if they might be bedding down under there? Seems logical since it is cloth. I didnt know that Ford has gotten as cheap as putting cloth to serve the purpose of a battery cover.

Have you noticed any loss of power after loosing a few horsepower er mousepower? LOL! I know the japanese trucks need those mice for torque purposes.

Here's some quick advice. Make sure there are no mice droppins' or any of that stuff on the exhaust manifold or anything that gets hot for that matter. When I was working at a detail shop a guy brought in a Miata that was home to some mice. He had to have the engine pressure washed because the droppins' cooked onto the manifold. Everytime he turned on the vents the burnt smell would go into the car. Nasty stuff.

Mice can get any where. I had bought a 78 f250 which had been sitting a while. They tore the stuffing out of the seat and made nests in the vents and the empty cavity it left. Everywhere they had nested it stunk. They will also chew wires or anythings else their little hearts desire.

they will start chewing up electrical wires and being that they are in the battery box area about 3'' away from them is the computer with tons of exposed wires.

Good point gashog. I would do something about them quickly cause if they do chew through important/expensive electrical stuff than I doubt that it will be covered under warrenty and you will be stuck with the bill.

No need to move or disturb your Expedition. At night, just leave a trail of cheese leading to your neighbor's Chevy.

I had a 94 escort, sealed up in a garage, come back to find three mouse nests in it! Pulled the nests out from under the front seats, and the one from the spare tire well, two weeks later they are back. I couldn't even tell how they were getting in, no rust holes, windows rolled all the way up, the only thing I can think of is they got in through the a/c drain.

Darn things drove me nuts, till a friend told me his trick...........just put "dryer sheets" under the seat's and one on the air cleaner. Work's great! Haven't had a mouse in years. FABMANDELUX

Here's a good one for ya, years ago I had an 84 merc. cougar and one day I went and turned on the a/c and a bunch of insullation came out of the vent, I never really gave it a though untill on a hot 90 degree day I got into the car and it had a really bad smell when I put the air on. The car was under warranty so I took it back to the dealer, when I went to pick it up at the end of the day, the service manager said that the mechanic had one of the worst days of his life today. When he removed the blower motor it was packed with a whole family of mice and when I turned on the air it chewed up the mice, so after sitting there in the baking sun you know what happened. The mechanic had to clean it all out and wash everything.
The warranty didn't cover it so I had to dish out $375 for there little nest.
