one of my neighbors has two trucks the first one is a 1979 f150 and the other is a 1978 f150. he is wanting to sell both trucks. i'm hoping someone might give me alittle info and the value. the 79 has been sitting for about 3 years, all it really needs is a new motor (which i have) and the fuilds and other various things changed such as brakes and so on. its not in to terrible bad of shape. has some light rust and only one or two rusted through spots, and mostly in the typical places (on the rear fender just above the tire). Now the 78 is a different story. it has not ran or moved for about 12 years. the body is basically shot. the way i'm approaching this is i'm buying the 79 and hes basically giving the 78 to get it out of his way. i'm not looking for an exact price but just a guideline to what to expect or what would be a good general price for both these trucks.
thanks for the help

I suppose a lot depends on your location, but if they were around my neck of the woods, I would say that they would only bring a few hundred dollars if one of them is basically falling apart, and the other has rust problems, and also needs a motor.... You said "typical rusty areas", does that include cab corners, rocker panels, floor pans, front fenders, or the floor of the bed?
I just boought a 74 F-100 2WD today that has been sitting for about two years, and I am in the process of replacing all three u-joints, the carrier bearing, plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor button, points, condensor, water pump, and I also purchased a rebuild kit for the carb. I feel pretty certain that the truck just sitting over a 2 year period has played a significant role in the deterioration of the above items (the tune-up was obviously needed), but you will no doubt run into quite a few other minor things that have been overlooked.... Just allow for a little extra expense when you are determining a fair offering price for the trucks.
If they are 4x4's, then I wouldn't have any idea of the "fair market price". I only have 2WD's, and that's about all I ever have fooled with...
We don't have much to work with here, don't know if his wife is after him to move them or what. If he hasn't moved either in a while he doesn't have much of a plan for them.
I'm gonna step out here and say offer him $500.00 for both of them, and see where it goes from there. I wouldn't want to put much more than a grand in the two of them tops. The 4X4s will bring more than 2X4s if you are willing to spend a little time on them and clean them up.
Where are you located?

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
Well as far as knowing if his wife is after him to sell the trucks i'd say probly so. since he has several vechicles which don't run just sitting around his house. I've tried to obtain these trucks one previous time and had no luck because he doen't like to part with things(don't blame him i wouldn't want to part with them either). plus he's not a mechanic which is why they are sitting because he's not good at fixing vechicles. well i'm suppose to talk to him here in the next day or so i'll make him an offer and see where it goes.
thanks for the help
