You should at least lock your doors as your insurance company can deny your claim. That happen to a friend of mine who did not believe in locking his doors and his vehicle was vandalized on the inside. His insurance company denied his claim stating that he did not take the minimum precautions in protecting his property. The same thing happened to some homeowners who did not believe in locking their homes in a small college town next to me and had things stolen. Their claims were denied for the same reason. Just something to be aware of.
Just tell them they were locked. Coulda used a slim jim

The insurance companies are always looking for an out. I say don't give it to them. Lock your doors, windows, install alarms, and whatever it takes to make the thief move on. That is why I asked about installing the handle covers. Just another way to make the thief think it is goinf to take more effort than he/she wants.
Another thing no one has mentioned is have your vehicle IDed. I had my 99 SD done at the local police department. They etch the windows with an ID number so they can track it if it is stolen. even if it is parted out. I intend to have the same done to my 06 SD as soon as I can
To answer your original question, you could do that. I don't know how much of a deterent it would be. My wife's vehicle comes like that. There is only one keyhole on the driver's door in case the keyless entry fails, and it's covered with a plastic piece. All the other doors and tailgate have no keyholes in them.
As for the ID'ing, my '04 came with it. I don't know if it was done by the dealer or what. It has a little sticker on the driver's side window that say's "Warning this vehicle is marked and traceable". And then has the etchings all over the place that have a serial #, and a 1-800 #.
