Post tire help

Hi,
Just joined the old Ford truck world. Picked up a 79 F350 4X4, a bit rough, but runs great, with a plow included.
Has need of new tires. Original rims with 7.50X16's. Having trouble trying to figure out which 'metric' size will be close to the one's on it now, which I think might be close to the original size.
What is the original rim width?
Can someone help with recommendations on what size will be best?
Will be just a 'close to home' truck and looking for mud and snows.
Thanks! I'm sure I'll be learning a lot from the list.
Greg

Are the rims that are now on the truck designed for tube-type tires? If so, you might consider upgrading to more modern rims. The newer Ford factory 8-lug rims through 1997 will fit all the old trucks back to '59. You would not be disappointed by going with a modern tubeless radial tire, that is unless you plan on "mudding it" a lot.

As for the metric equivalent, you might try looking at the major tire manufacturer's sites. Some of these have some good info. If you are you going to buy your tires locally, you might consider talking with your local supplier for suggestions as to what size and brand tires will work best for your intended use and which will be within your budget. I hope this helps.

A 7.5" tire is only 190.5 mm. Seems awfully small for a F350. I have an F250 with 9.5 x 16.5's. Since you have a 4x4, I'd go with something in the 10" to 12" range, but you'll probably need wider rims to accommodate the larger tires.

265 mm = 10.4"
285 mm = 11.2"
305 mm = 12.0"
