Could some one please tell me what size tires would have been original. Truck is a 65 1/2 ton flairside short box. The original rims are stamped Ford 1965 15 x 5 1/2. The PO had some 8x15 alum. wheels and wide 60's on the back. They look way to wide, (protrude past the fender openings at least an inch and a half and they look too short (don't come close to filling the wheel well.) On the front he had some steel rims that I think he got to fit over the disk brake conversion so he could roll the truck onto the ramp truck for delivery.(he had not installed the alum. wheels on the front). Those tires were a light truck tire and look more like what I'm after. Since I have the original steel wheels and hub caps I would like to use those. The two for the front are not the original but look the same and seem to clear the disk brakes. So, what were the originals and what would be todays metric size? Thanks for any help.
I asked this same question and never got the answer. I ended up going with a 235/75/r15. They fill the wheel wells nicely, and don't have any rubbing issues in back.
Thank you all, Nice chart. I'll look into the tires sizes you list ND and try to see what's close in todays sizes. I'll also take a look at some 235 75 15's.
i got the same size for my 63' f100 4x4. I wish i had gotten slightly larger tires, maybe 2'' bigger in diameter. My 4x4 rides higher and there is more room, so it looks kinda funny. I have had at least two or three people glance at it and say "those tires look a little small for the truck". that was also my first impressionm but was hopeing it was just me, but of course it isn't just me.

I have a couple of 225 75 R15 tires around and they don't seem tall enough to me. I see from the chart 235's are just slightly taller like an inch so it's still small looking. The LT tires on the chart are quite a bit taller 3 inches or so. I think I'll also see how they look.

I currently have 235/75/15 on my 66...been thinking about 205/75/15...just always felt the 235s were a little too wide...and according to the charts the 205s are pretty close to stock..any thoughts??
I just got these on stock size steel rims.
I asked for p225/75 r15.....they put on 225/70 r15.
Schuyles, I got to say those do seem to fit pretty good and I already have a couple. I will check them out again. We have the same ride Thanks for all the imput guys.
I have 215-70-R15 on mine. They are fine for the front as any wider and they would rub on the frame.
I intened to throw a set of 235-75-R15, C rate "truck" tires under the rear soon. The P rates bulge alot with a load on the bed I think they will be fine for now but I would go as high in load capacity in the front as one can get. they bulge pretty good too.
